The Edge - Quarter 4, 2008 - (Page 23) the block as well as four centerline walls in the basement. “The only part of the hydraulics that we were concerned about was the freezing and thawing of the pipes because they wouldn’t be protected underground as they are in a typical project. Literally, all of the plumbing is exposed because of the height of the pool. All of those return lines, the conduit lighting—everything is exposed. Everything was to be strapped under the deck, but we had our concerns about that as well. We knew the pool would not move, but the deck could move and if it did it would mean leaky pipes. We brought in a structural engineer to do some work on the deck as well so that we would not have any shifting of the pipes. “We were pleased with the professional attention we received from the town,” said Prizzi. “The town that the pool was constructed in has large buildings and shopping centers going up—complex construction projects. But this job caught the attention of the building inspectors who came out to watch it being constructed. At first we were concerned that we had failed an inspection, but the inspectors said they were coming out to watch it under construction because they had never seen a pool built this way. So that was neat for us that they would come out and be amazed at how the job was being built. “We had a deadline; we usually don’t do deadlines, but since we were beginning it in the summer, we had a deadline for the following summer. We were able to get it done before Memorial Day 2006.
