Association Executive - November/December 2007 - (Page 14) INSIDE NYSAE Sneak Preview at We Love New York’s 30th Anniversary Program “We Love New York” has been the rallying cry to NYSAE’s association and not-for-profit community for much longer than it’s been touted on billboards and advertisements throughout the country. NYSAE will gather for a special salute to its hometown—New York—when it meets for its 30th We Love New York Day. The program will be held February 4-5 at the Sheraton New York Hotel. “Our annual We Love New York Day commemorates the diversity of New York and salutes the city where so many of us are lucky enough to make our homes and our livelihoods,” said Joel A. Dolci, CAE, CEO and president of NYSAE. “Our annual program demonstrates our love for this city.” The festivities will begin with a Gala Celebration 30th Anniversary Dinner on February 4 and will include an exciting entertainment program and presentation of NYSAE’s prestigious Humanitarian Award. The program continues on February 5 with an array of outstanding educational sessions to help association and not-for-profit executives better serve their constituents and presentation of an Outstanding New Yorker Award. Among the 16 educational programs to be presented in private classrooms are: Major Gifts: Finding The Perfect Donors Who Love Your Mission and Will Stay With You for Life, to be presented by Terry Axelrod, CEO and founder, Benevon. Learn a tested and proven system to rapidly identify and cultivate the perfect major donors who love your mission— donors who will give for operations, capital, and endowment. By the end of this session, you will have learned how to: generate a steady stream of missionfocused major donors; convert existing members or smaller donors into major donors; and engage your board in the fundraising process without requiring that they ask for money. Keeping Members: The Myths & Realities, to be presented by Arlene Farber Sirkin, president, Washington Resource Consulting Group, Inc. In this interactive presentation, participants will learn research-based answers to key questions about what you can do to grow your association’s membership, including: what is the ONE most effective action to keep more first year members? How can you increase the value of your association to your members? Is your association recruiting for retention or just for one year? What role does the CEO play in the retention process? Changing Expectations in NotFor-Profit Governance, to be presented by Jerry Jacobs, Esq., partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Trade associations, professional and scientific societies, cause organizations and other not-for-profits have a large new focus on governance. Learn where changing expectations by constituents and government are taking nonprofit governance. Board size, roles, meetings, and liabilities; duties of loyalty, conflicts, confidentiality; controls on insider payments; and IRS initiatives and state laws will be addressed. Mitigating Risk in a Connected World, to be presented by Chris Furey, CEO, Another 9, LLC. Are you confident enough to say to your members or major donors 14 ASSOCIAT IO N EX EC U T IV E NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2007
