Association Executive - November/December 2007 - (Page 18) INSIDE NYSAE continued from page 17 behavioral kinesiology, or what Teplitz calls “body talk.” Body talk, according to Teplitz, is based on the concept that everyone and everything in our external and internal environment measurably affects us. As explained by Teplitz, the brain sends electrical impulses through the nervous system to direct the body. When something disrupts those signals, then the body’s functioning is affected, and if something interferes with the electrical signals telling a muscle to contract, then there will be a noticeable difference in muscle strength. He demonstrated that it is possible to determine these effects by testing muscle resistance. Cool white lighting, negative people, lying, and frowns can all lower muscle resistance, while full spectrum lighting, visualizing negative people in a positive way, music, telling the truth, and even the crossing of energy paths can all raise muscle resistance. Teplitz originally graduated from Hunter College and Northwestern University School of Law and practiced as an attorney for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. He then studied and received Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Holistic Health Sciences. He is the author of the books Managing Your Stress: How To Relax and Enjoy; Switched-on Living; and Brain Gym for Business. Since approaching the workday with negative thoughts, with hostility, frustration, anger, disappointment, or depression, can be an energy drain for ourselves and to those around us, Teplitz’s ultimate message: Choose the positive. NYSAE’s 2007 CAE Enrichment Program The Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation is a mark of achievement for any leader in the field of association management. Certification is conferred by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for demonstrating a high level of competence in association management, documenting professional, educational and community service achievements and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct. The NYSAE Career Enrichment Program prepares candidates for the CAE examination through evening classes facilitated by CAEs. Senior level staff and Executive Directors are encouraged to attend. Benefits of Certification: • Set yourself apart from the competition • Expand your knowledge and insight into every aspect of association management • Receive national recognition from your peers, boards and associates • Become a distinguished member of your profession • Enrich your career Benefits of Career Enrichment Program: • An experienced, professional faculty • Small class sessions and study groups • Materials and means to help you get your certification • Assistance in all domains of association management “Once I earned my CAE, I received unsolicited calls from headhunters looking to fill senior level management positions. The CAE designation identifies you as someone committed to – and experienced in – the non-profit profession.” Linda A. Glad, CAE, Director of Operations, National Association of Episcopal Schools “Early on in my career in association management, I made obtaining the CAE designation a top professional goal. When I became a CAE several years later, I was filled with a great sense of accomplishment. I think that by getting your CAE you’re saying that you’re serious about association management as a profession and that you’re committed to your own professional growth.” Josh Gold, CAE, CMP, Senior Sales Manager, Walt Disney World Resort “The CAE credential has provided an immense benefit to my career as an association and not-forprofit executive. There is no question that the knowledge I gained helped advance my professional standing - both within my organization and in the association field at large.” Eric Hertz, Director of Executive Education, Fashion Institute of Technology Career Classes start February 12, 2008 Members: $300 • Non-members: $400 For more information or to register call 212-206-8230 or www.nysaenet.org 18 ASSOCIAT IO N EX EC U T IV E NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2007 SponserAdCAE.indd 1 9/19/07 8:44:02 AM
