Florida Connects - Winter 2008 - (Page 24) Chapter News Tampa Colin Cowie: Elegant. Edgy. Extraordinary. By Michelle Schumacher and Tracie Domino ON THURSDAY, NOV. 15, 2007, THE TAMPA Bay Area MPI Chapter hosted a VIP brunch and speaking engagement at the Tampa Convention Center featuring “party planner to the stars” Colin Cowie. Tickets for both events were made available to both MPI members and the general public. This was the event of the year for professional planners and Tampa Bay’s elite party hosts. The goals for this first-time event were to offer an internationally renowned speaker with meeting professional and special events experience to educate and entertain our membership and guests. We strived to create brand awareness within the meeting professional community of the Tampa Bay Area Chapter members’ talent, skills and abilities from a local level to a regional and national scope. Additionally, our hope was to broaden the exposure of meeting professional industry to the community. In addition to bringing the A-list speaker to town, the Tampa Bay MPI Chapter’s Special Events Committee of volunteers, headed by Denise Glass of Sensory 5, and Terre Jeffcoat Paz of Ryah Creative Group, created an allaround fabulous event. From the inception, Sensory 5 developed all of the highly successfully marketing and print materials. The color components of that marketing campaign were used by Event Producer Ryah Creative Group as beautiful threads of continuity to leverage creativity and lead all sponsors, transforming the Tampa Convention Center and creating an elegant, edgy, extraordinary experience for the audience. Using the initial Colin Cowie Event foundation of colors established by Sensory 5, including chocolate brown, white, black, silver and green, Grand Events of Florida, LLC and Grymes Cannon Floral Design transformed the Tampa Convention Center’s main entryway into a chic reception/check-in area. Black leather deco couches, accompanied by white acrylic cube tables and accented with green vases and tall cylinder vases holding green apples and palm fronds, created a modish seating area at the entryway; in the back of the reception area, an S-curve of ottomans placed against a sheer white backdrop dressed with chains of geometric silver circles creatively separated the Colin Cowie event from others simultaneously taking place at the convention center. Glass and chrome tables placed throughout provided space for displaying silent auction sheets. Accent colors were tastefully incorporated throughout with various styles of vases that held blooms such as pale yellow and pink roses, lilies and canna lilies.
