Chapter News Orlando Orlando Chapter Gives Back with Heart TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY DOLLARS will buy a lot of much-needed pet food, and thanks to the generosity of members and guests at a recent MPIGOA luncheon, that’s exactly what will happen. The Orlando chapter doesn’t have to prove it has heart; it shows it each time it takes on the task of raising money or providing hands-on assistance for charities. It’s true that our core business is planning and supplying meetings. However, also at our core is our hearts. The Greater Orlando Area Chapter of MPI reinforced a commitment to the community at large in 2007, and this effort will be a continued focus into 2008. In fact, our Community Outreach team has made it their mission to engage all MPI-GOA members to share their good fortune with those who need it most throughout the coming year. During the last quarter of 2007, we were proud to raise $280 for Lil’ Lap Dogs Animal Rescue. The money In 2008, MPI-GOA members will collect coins for charity. It’s amazing what the collective power of loose change can achieve! directly assists foster homes as they feed, heal and prepare homeless dogs for a forever home. Just by visiting www.lillapdog.org, you can see the huge needs that exist for these forgotten friends. Taking care of our furry friends: The Orlando chapter raised $280 for Lil’ Lap Dogs Animal Rescue. We all are aware of how much dedication and sacriﬁce the members of our armed forces have provided over the past several years. So in November, along with the food, fun and games at our Annual Softball Tournament and Chili Cook-Off, we launched “Operation Ziploc!” The “Ziploc” campaign was designed to collect travel-size toiletries, as well as paperback books, cameras and playing cards, which were then packaged into Ziploc bags. The campaign continued at the December and January luncheons, and these bags were shipped in late January to a Central Florida unit deployed in Iraq. At the Chili Cook-Off, we were honored to host three active-duty soldiers from Central Florida who agreed to serve as chili judges! Sgt. Dale Thompson and Spc. Eric 28 Florida CONNECTS Winter 2008
