PIHRA and its members are unfortunately not immune to these realities. Many PIHRA members are looking for new work opportunities. Those members still employed have had to face the business realities that come with reduced revenue generation, including reduction in staff to cut expenses, and at the same time, keeping a positive face for the employees that are left, but still worried about “Am I next?” PIHRA, as an organization, has tightened its belt, too, with a reduction of staff in late 2008, and by making cuts in its expenses. That said, more than ever, PIHRA is here to support you in your role as human resources professionals. As PIHRA looks toward the future, we are excited about the possibilities. In the upcoming months, PIHRA will be hosting a number of workshops for those in transition – workshops on building a career marketing plan, networking and resume review. PIHRA’s listserv members continue to be active and involved on a daily basis, providing each other with endless support on their many HR questions. PIHRA also recently enhanced its collaboration with the LawRoom so that members now get access to some of LawRoom’s more in-depth research, in addition to the weekly HRSnapshot e-mail that goes out to all members. All PIHRA districts continue to hold regular meetings for networking and education. Finally, we are thrilled to debut our Pacific West HR Conference in Palm Springs this year, Sept. 14-16. Our opening keynote speaker is Libby Sartain, former CHRO at both Yahoo! Inc. and Southwest Airlines. All of this is to say that PIHRA has been in business for more than 60 years, and plans to continue to realize its mission of providing networking, educational and career development opportunities to its members for many years to come.
