feature CASC Members Honor Assemblywoman Linda Sanchez at ASCA Advocacy and Public Policy Institute with the American School Counselor Association Legislator of the Year Award. Your CASC board members learned how to protect school counselors’ jobs, budgets and our students. The twoday training included information on current national issues that may aﬀect you; eﬀective ways to work with national and state leaders; and how to inform, train and educate school counselors in California. Steve, Chuck and Nancy visited Capitol Hill and met with 10 members of Congress and/or their staﬀ, as well as California senators Boxer and Feinstein. The message to the legislators included thanking the House and Senate for acknowledging National School Counseling Week; supporting restoring the elementary and secondary school counseling funding; urging support of HR 3439 (“Put School Counselors Where They’re Needed”); restoring all/any funding for the more than 48 programs within the Department of Education that are slated for elimination; and ﬁnally advocating for including school counselors in No Child Left Behind school professional development programs. Each year members of Congress, as well as state legislators, deliberate bills crucial to your students and your job.
