Editor Northern California Conference Provided Lively Dialogue and Informative Workshops By the time you receive this magazine I hope you will already have read the premier edition of our new format for The California School Counselor. Our theme for this edition is preventing school violence. Many of our students have not learned to be kind to fellow students and respect their individual uniqueness. We live in a diverse society, which is the richness of the mosaic of American culture. If we expect to educate the next generation to live in a global society, we must fi rst start at home in our neighborhoods and our schools. Our students must value and respect those who are not as well off economically, have not yet mastered the English language, have learning disabilities, physical or intellectual limitations, or different lifestyles. Dr. John Hoover has written a special article on cyberbullying and equal access bullying for this edition. The Northern California CASC Conference was an energizing experience for school counselors. With over 200 school counselors, counselor educators, and administrators in attendance, the wide variety of workshops provided an opportunity for everyone to pursue a topic of interest. I was privileged to lead two of the workshops and was very gratified by the interest shown by attendees. My afternoon session was the annual Writer’s Workshop Update on Professional Counselor Licensure Legislation CASC is a member of the California Coalition for Counselor Licensure (CCCL) and actively supports the passage of AB 1486 in its legislative advocacy efforts. We are very close to making counselor licensure a reality in California and your support for AB 1486 is critical! The licensure effort needs every counselor in California to: • send a financial contribution • sign up to be part of the database Financial Support: Thanks to state and national counseling organizations and conscientious individual counselors, CCCL has raised the money to maintain a lobbyist in Sacramento and a database manager to sustain our efforts. We need your donations now for our efforts to continue uninterrupted. Please send a contribution today, so we can proceed. Donate online at www.caccl.org/support.html using a credit card or send in a donation to CCCL, P.O. Box 6493, Ventura, CA 93006-6493. Advocacy Support: CCCL has organized counselors by legislative district, so when you enter your information into our database, we will be able to contact you when it is time to contact your legislator(s). Sign up at https://host.securelook.com/psctr/ccclsignupform.html. More information on the licensure effort is available at info@caccl.org or the Web site www.caccl.org.
