Attendees learned about the value of school counselor writing, the multitude of ways to write items to enhance school counselor advocacy in their local school programs, tips for writing Best Practices for the CASC Monograph, publishing guidelines for ASCA and ASCD publications, refereed journal writing, and opportunities to write for counselor publications. As counselor educator and supervisor representative, I was privileged to moderate the second workshop, Counselor Educator’s Forum. Counselor educators in attendance represented the following schools: California State University East Bay, Fresno Pacific, Loyola Marymount University, National University, University of California at Davis, University of California at Berkeley Extension in collaboration with St. Mary’s College and University of La Verne. Dialogue was lively and counselor educators indicated that they were glad CASC provided the opportunity to get together and discuss their concerns. Counselor Educator’s Forum will be a part of future annual CASC conferences. I look forward to having more schools represented next year. Both CASC President George Montgomery and Executive Director Loretta Whitson have written articles about the state of school counseling in California. We have a challenge and we are able to meet that challenge. Faye Arco, national ASCA school counselor of the year semifinalist, demonstrates in her article “Making a Difference— One Family at a Time: An AB 1802 Success Story” the impact an AB 1802 conference had in the lives of one family. With such positive interventions legislators and school officials must realize the enormous difference we make in the California education system. A special thank you to Dr. Suzy Thomas, assistant editor, for securing the action research articles for each edition and to Bruce Langdyke, assistant editor, for the thought-provoking book review reminding us of the obstacles adolescent girls face in growing up and how bibliotherapy is effective in promoting positive development. ■ 6 The California School Counselor | summer 2008 http://www.montecatinieatingdisorder.com http://www.asu.edu/admissions
