Congratulations to the SPARC Award winners, the ASCA RAMP Award winners, and the H.B. McDaniel Award winners. We have a great group of counselors in California. My comments will be brief in this edition as I want to encourage you to read the “Update on Counselor Licensure.” The California Coalition on Counselor Licensure (CCCL) needs your support to get AB 1486 passed this year and advance the professionalism of counseling across California with the signing into law of the Professional Counselor License (LPC) – AB 1486. On a personal note I am proud to announce that a new school counseling book that I was privileged to edit is out this fall. Empowering the 21st Century Professional School Counselor is published by Counseling Outfitters, LLC. The majority of the chapters were written by counselor educators teamed up with practicing school counselors. Many California counselors authored chapters. Book sections include professional issues: What it Means to Be a Professional School Counselor; Leadership Issues and Challenges: School Counselors Leading Educational Reform; Skill Building: School Counselors as Practitioners; and Self Care: Care for the Caregiver. Update on Counselor Licensure CCCL is committed to making 2008 the year of counselor licensure! Upon reconsideration, the Senate Business and Professions Committee approved AB 1486 on June 16, 2008.
