SGMP NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2009-2011
A Rewarding Experience and Journey. Thank You!
President Melody Kebe, CMP, CGMP Defense Information Systems Agency First Vice President Rob Coffman, CGMP U.S. Department of Treasury
IN 2007, I felt deeply honored to have been elected as your national president.
Today, the honor is still with me and will be when my tenure comes to a close on June 30, 2011. Before I took office on July 1, 2007, I wanted to start my term with a vision that would have an impact on how the members of our Society do business. My vision was to create a partnership with a focus on three primary components. First, by communicating openly and effectively – being more transparent about the Society’s operations and financial standing and how we share the information with our members. Second, by convincing members to take ownership of their benefits – participating in educational programs, getting involved and maximizing the wealth of resources that are within arms reach through networking. Third, by working together to promote our Society internally and externally – telling our story about who we are and what we do as the only Society that caters to government planners and reaching out to those who don’t know enough about us. There is no doubt in my mind that the vision I set forth has not been for naught. My fellow leaders – nationally and locally – are committed to making SGMP the most sought-after professional organization in the meetings industry. Our persistence in improving our education programs, updating our bylaws and policies, creating new initiatives, enhancing our resource tools and adding new revenue streams in the past years demonstrated tremendous change for the good of SGMP. It took a lot of courage to make sure we got it right on behalf of the membership. My hat is off to you, for your leadership, guidance and tenacity in the transformation of our Society. Fellow members, without your personal commitment to remain a member we would not have been able to sustain our organization despite the economic challenges we all are facing. I applaud each of you for your investment, continued support and dedication to stay with us even as your lives may be shifting. To Executive Director & CEO Charles Sadler – your motto to put members and mission first is a testament to your passion and dedication to SGMP. Thanks to you and your team for being the “wingmen” in my journey to take our organization to the next level. A very special thank you to SGMP’s past national presidents who shared their experiences, insights and guidance in helping me to lead the best of the best. Together, as a team we: • improved collaboration efforts by connecting our members • improved communication across the entire organization • provided greater efficiency by utilizing our resources effectively • increased our accountability and fiduciary responsibilities • increased focus on providing quality member benefits In closing, the most important part of my journey was learning from all of you –which ultimately inspired me to give more of myself and to do the best that I can. At every turn, I learned something different to help take my leadership to higher levels. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. I hope I’ve served you well.
