To Have or Have Not
By Kristi Griffith, CGMP, CHSP
THE DEFINITION OF a business card: bearing business information about a company or individual; shared during formal introductions as a convenience and a memory aid; includes name, company, contact information. Ever wonder why you need to have them? There you go. A business card is like insurance. And for such a little piece of paper, it holds so much valuable information. Whether attending formal events such as SGMP’s 30th Annual National Education Conference & Expo, lunch meetings,
educational sessions, receptions or just waiting in the line to go through security or riding an elevator, you always meet people. It’s important to have that little card on hand with you. Your business card is a valuable tool to help you grow professionally – to connect to potential members of your chapter or future contacts for business and personal needs. The information on your card helps another planner use you as a resource, allows a supplier to know where your office is located and can now easily be shared electronically with hundreds of people in a single click of a mouse. Many of you are not supplied with such a thing, but not to worry. There are numerous sites on the Internet where you can create your own business cards and print them for free or at minimal expense. Some popular websites worth checking out are www.bizcard.com, www.vistaprint.com and freeprintablebusinesscards.net. Make sure you bring lots of business cards to this year’s National Education Conference. You can never hand out too many! See you in New Orleans May 16-18, 2012! G
