Education. Resources. Networking.
By Rob Bergeron, CAE, CGMP SGMP MEMBERSHIP MEANS so many things to so many different people. I often ask our members “of all of the numerous training options available to you, why did you join the Society of Government Meeting Professionals?” or, “in today’s challenging times—where our industry is under fire and when everyone expects more for less—what makes you maintain your SGMP membership?” If I would ask this of one hundred different members, I might get one hundred different answers. Or maybe I wouldn’t? Maybe the answers say the same thing? Because all could be summarized into one of three reasons—Education. Resources. Networking.
“CGMP” certification is available to every member (planner or supplier) throughout the year and across the country - Expert speakers add value to every event - The National Education Conference provides education, resources and networking all at once every year - Your chapter’s meetings provide resources and networking all at once every month SGMP members ask their staff all the time: “How can I help the organization that has helped me so much?” They want to know how they can make their Society better and how they can give back to their profession.
It’s an awesome question to be asked. And an easy one to answer. “The best way you can increase the effectiveness of your organization,” I tell them, “is to invite one of your peers to join.” Your organization’s mission is to enhance the knowledge and expertise of government meeting professionals. Its objectives are to improve the quality of—and promote the costeffectiveness of—government meetings. We promote everything we do on behalf of you and all of our members via our motto: Get Connected to Government Meetings—Plug Into SGMP. We deliver our member benefits to you through education, resources and networking. Education. Resources. Networking.
