SGMP NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2011-2013 PRESIDENT’S LETTER Giving Thanks President Rob Coffman, CGMP U.S. Department of Treasury First Vice President Rhonda Wise, CGMP U.S. Department of Labor By Rob Coffman, CGMP National President At the end of each year, it is customary to step back for a moment to count your blessings or to give thanks to the people and things that made the year favorable and memorable. It is a season to enjoy time and celebrations with family and loved ones. I consider my colleagues here to be my SGMP family, so it certainly feels appropriate to pause for a moment— after what has been a whirlwind (and headline full) year for our industry and our association—and acknowledge that in our Society for which I am most thankful: • Each day I feel beyond fortunate to be able to serve alongside this incredibly dedicated and talented group of national board members. Each of them stepped up for this organization and stayed standing when we needed them most. • I am honored to be working with the Gilmer Institute of Learning trustees on setting our education priorities and goals at a time when the need to focus on our mission has never been greater. There is much to be done and I am thankful that none of them ever complain. • Our chapter leaders across the country are making great strides on the local level and so many are doing so much to positively represent SGMP and our industry as a whole. “Thank you” for bringing out the best in all of us! • I could not count the number of private messages and calls I have received from SGMP members this summer and fall. Every one of them shared their passion for their SGMP family; we have all gone through so much and grown so much this year. • Lastly, I would like to acknowledge our team of professionals that make up the SGMP staff at our headquarters. They are led by our Acting Executive Director Rob Bergeron and together they make our society operate smoothly day in and day out. I encourage every member of the SGMP family to reflect and to share your appreciation with those who have done the most and meant the most in 2012. GO SGMP!!! At your service, Second Vice President Shelley Mann, CGMP Hilton Worldwide Secretary Debra Kilpatrick, CGMP Office of the Attorney General, State of Virginia Treasurer James Lynton, CHSP Woodlake Hotel Sacramento Director Maggie McGowan, CGMP, CMP University of Oklahoma Director Beth Miller-Tipton, CMP, CGMP University of Florida Director Kelly Roche, CGMP, CTA Irving, TX CVB Immediate Past President Melody Kebe, CMP, CGMP Defense Information Systems Agency Acting Executive Director Rob Bergeron, CGMP 6 GOVERNMENT CONNECTIONS | Winter 2013
