SIA The Intelligent Partner - Winter 2008 - (Page 10) | S I A W E L COME | opefully, by the time you are reading this, Mother Nature has blessed us with copious amounts of snow and retail shops are buzzing with customers eager to hit the mountains. And as eager as our staff here at SIA is to hit the mountains, we just wanted to keep you updated on some exciting programs and successes SIA has experienced over the last several months. As Your Intelligent Partner.365, SIA has actively been investing time and energy into the future of our industry and starting to reap the rewards from our efforts. Hopefully you have gotten a chance to catch the extensive amount of snow-sports product coverage that our members have received in major consumer magazines such as Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, Shape, Sports Illustrated for Kids and Women’s Health, and we anticipate more as Winter issues hit the newsstands. Circulation for these magazines alone is well over 6 million and the product placement is equivalent to more than $5 million in ad equivalency. The coverage is due in large part to SIA’s continued media outreach programs such as the SIA Summer Snowdown in New York each July, the VIP media events at Stratton Mountain and the SIA SnowSports Trade Show to name a few. On another high note, we certainly enjoyed seeing many of you as SIA staff members and our stellar team of speakers toured the U.S. to bring you an extremely well-received Fall Education Workshop program. More than 300 members of the industry attended these workshops dubbed “Know Your Customers-Grow Your Business” which armed the attendees with practical tips and business practices to help grow the bottom line. “The Workshop was a great opportunity for the industry to come together. Retailers, suppliers and area operations could all benefit from more opportunities like this to discuss challenges, identify opportunities and share ideas. Bottom line – we need to all figure out how to get more people buying gear and getting up on the slopes more often. The Workshops are a step in that direction,” said Chuck Mason, VP of Sales for Burton. And the buck doesn’t stop there as we are just on the verge of our 37th annual SIA SnowSports Trade Show. We hope you will be joining us for the largest “family reunion” in the industry as more than 20,000 industry professionals descend on Las Vegas at the end of the month. We have some exciting events on the horizon, including the SIA Snow Fashion Show, the Opening Night Party, the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame Induction, live music daily, booth parties galore and we haven’t even gotten to the invaluable business and networking opportunities. What better place to spend four days than in Vegas, Jan. 29-Feb. 1, 2008 – One House. One Family. We look forward to seeing you all in the upcoming weeks and celebrating the Business of Snow! d SIA STAFF Suzanne Aguas Accounting Manager saguas@snowsports.org Alicia Allen Associate Director of PR and Consumer Marketing aallen@snowsports.org Laura Benjamin Receptionist lbenjamin@snowsports.org Maggie Bittner Meetings and Special Events Manager mbittner@snowsports.org Dave Blakeslee Manager of Internet Communications dblakeslee@snowsports.org Linda Boodley Office Manager and Staff Accountant lboodley@snowsports.org Judy Brown Project Assistant jbrown@snowsports.org Henry Cho Database Manager hcho@snowsports.org Kelly Davis Director of Research kdavis@snowsports.org Mary DeOrnellas Trade Show and Membership Services Coordinator mdeornellas@snowsports.org Debbie Brown Des Roches Director of Trade Show ddesroches@snowsports.org Julie Lynch Edwards Director of Consumer Research research@snowsports.org Sherry Gilbert Print Production Manager sgilbert@snowsports.org Bryan Ginn IT Manager bginn@snowsports.org Patricia Grenke Trade Show and Membership Services Manager pgrenke@snowsports.org Leslie Groves Director of Marketing and Communications lgroves@snowsports.org Sara Hobbs Manager of Board Relations and Office of the President shobbs@snowsports.org David Ingemie President dingemie@snowsports.org Reddy Kennedy Central Region Sales and Marketing Manager rkennedy@snowsports.org Mary Cecile Neville Associate Director of Trade Marketing and Member Services mcneville@snowsports.org Bob Orbacz Director of Finance and Operations rorbacz@snowsports.org Pete Pandoli Coordinator of Education and Special Projects ppandoli@snowsports.org Chris Semon Director of Sales and Membership chris@snowsports.org Mary Jo Tarallo Director of Education and Special Projects mjtarallo@snowsports.org Dave Wray Western Sales and Marketing Manager dwray@snowsports.org Ed Wray Eastern Sales and Marketing Manager ewray@snowsports.org H CONTRIBUTORS Lori Crabtree has worked in the outdoor and snow-sports industries for the past 12 years, handling public relations for companies such as Yakima, SmartWool, Thinsulate Insulation, Outdoor Retailer and SnowSports Industries America. is a green building consultant, LEED Accredited Professional and licensed general contractor in North Carolina.
