SIA The Intelligent Partner - Fall 2007 - (Page 28) WINTER TRAILS PROVIDES OPTIMAL INTRODUCTION January event will be next in a successful series The 13th annual Winter Trails® event will take place Jan. 12, 2008, at more than 100 locations in 25 states and four Canadian provinces. One event at Estes Park, Colo. is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2008. This event offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and/or crosscountry skiing free. Through these easy-to-learn activities, participants can have fun and discover the health and fitness benefits of snow sports. In 2006, more than 15,000 children and adults attended a Winter Trails event and the program has attracted more than 70,000 since its inception. Most Winter Trails venues are located at Nordic centers while others are on national forest and park service land, regional parks and at snow resorts. Equipment is provided free by venue or product suppliers. Many venues offer educational programs, lessons, clinics and guided tours. A state-by-state listing of Winter Trails locations is available at www.wintertrails.org. As this event has continued to grow and introduce new participants to snow sports and the mountain, there are several ways for all factions of our industry to get involved. Supplier sponsors of Winter Trails support the event financially, through distribution of brochures and flyers via their rep force and by organizing demos in cooperation with their reps and affiliated retailers. Retailers stand to gain new business from Winter Trails by supporting individual events though promotions, staff support and customer incentives.
