Stone Dimensions - Winter/Spring 2008 - (Page 29) In April, 1999, two student gunmen killed l2 students and a teacher before killing themselves. The placid, stone-walled oval is nestled in Clement Park in suburban Denver, next to the school where the tragedy occurred. The memorial consists of an outer wall called “The Ring of Healing,” and an inner wall called the “Ring of Remembrance.” Messages from the immediate families of the victims are inscribed on the inner wall. Denver Marble, a member of the Marble Institute of America, working with Great Panes Glassworks of Denver, was an integral partner along with Pickard Construction, in developing and building the memorial. The primary stones used were Dakota mahogany and Colorado red sandstone. One of the toughest tasks was final placement of the “Ring of Remembrance” tablets, each of which weighed 1200 pounds. www.stonedimensionsmagazine.com StoneDimensions 29 http://www.stonedimensionsmagazine.com
