In addition to the normal “post trip” inspection, the instructors recommended that a post trip inspection be performed immediately after a vehicle is involved in a crash. Finally, all employees should know that lawsuits and courthouses are real. When accidents happen and courts get involved, the driver, supervisor, and mechanics may have to answer questions on the safe operation and maintance of a vehicle. On Saturday, participants worked a staged accident scene to apply the knowledge learned in class. The instructors pointed out the importance of post trip inspections but emphasized special attention should be given to brake and steering systems, as well as, tires.
