Association Leadership - January/February 2008 - (Page 41) community spotlight Affiliate Member My Name: Jason Byrd Job Title: Senior Sales Manager Executive Member My Name: Ron Cravey Job Title: Executive Director Place of Employment: Texas Computer Education Association Years in the Association Market: 7 Childhood ambition: Growing up I was a nerd. I liked to read, I was in the band and I did well in classes. Although I was never into school sports, I loved the outdoors and every chance I had I was fishing or hunting. At one time, an aptitude test indicated I should be a game warden or a park ranger. Place of Employment: Dallas/ Plano Marriott at Legacy Town Center Years in the Association Market: 1 Childhood ambition: To become a meteorologist. First job: My dad owned an oil well service company and my first jobs were with his company. I was a janitor, a roustabout foreman, a pulling-unit floor hand and basically did any job that needed to be done; especially the ones that were so bad others would not do them. First job: Sacker (bag boy) at the Winn-Dixie in Ardmore, Okla. Inspiration: My faith, my wife and my family. Inspiration: I am inspired every day by the people who get up and go to work and make the world a better place. Today’s news focuses on the dark side of life and is so pervasive it would be easy to lose hope, but for every bad news story there are a thousand good ones. Fondest memory: My wedding day. Especially the reception. Favorite movie or book: Movie – “What About Bob?” Fondest memory: My fondest memories are about family. Both sides of my family still have regular family reunions and I never miss one. I spent every summer with all my cousins at my grandparents’ house and cherish every minute I spent there. Proudest moment: Being asked back as an alum to speak at Oklahoma State University’s Hospitality Speaker Series. Favorite movie or book: My favorite movies and books change over time. I am a voracious reader and love all books, especially science fiction and adventure (I am a nerd after all). Picking a favorite movie would be very difficult but one that I enjoy watching often for comedic relief is “Support Your Local Sheriff.” Perfect day: Wake up and the yard is cut, the sun is shining and there’s a cup of coffee and the crossword/ Sudoku is on the coffee table. I don’t have any plans. I just do what I feel like doing. Proudest moment: My proudest moment has to be the birth of my daughter. My life… …will be defined by my family, friends and loved ones. I like to keep things light and I know that a great attitude and a good sense of humor can make a world of difference. Perfect day: A perfect day is one spent in good company, no matter the circumstances. My life… …is good. I enjoy good health, I have a great job, I can travel when I wish and I have good family and friends. My profession… …is very rewarding. To help people achieve their goals is a true priority of mine and I’m so glad that I’m in a position where I can be a part of My profession… …is wonderful. I have spent all my life working in education. As a teacher I was glad to be able to impact hundreds of students’ lives. As a district administrator, I was able to impact thousands of students. As the executive director of TCEA, I am able to impact hundreds of thousands of students. ◆ January/February 2008 | Association LEADERSHIP 41
