T Register online at TSAE.org Global Summit on Social Responsibility ASAE & The Center are hosting an innovative Global Social Responsibility Summit April 30 to May 2, 2008, to define the role that associations can play in solving complex world economic, social and environmental problems, while simultaneously creating healthier organizations. The summit aims to collaboratively craft the principles, guidelines and actions that will transform this initiative from conversation to action. In collaboration, TSAE will be hosting a “connected” site in Austin for members to attend and participate. “We will be setting our agenda for the future,” said Susan Sarfati, president and CEO of The Center and executive vice president of ASAE. “The feedback from members has been so positive and enthusiastic that we believe we are ready to take the next step and, together, create a social responsibility platform for our profession. So many people are excited about participating that I’m confident this is a tipping point for collaboration within our sector!” Using the much-lauded appreciative inquiry management theory that he developed, Case Western Reserve University professor David Cooperrider, Ph.D., will be guiding the summit and ongoing conversations surrounding the overall initiative. The summit will demonstrate practical hands-on methods for facilitating collaboration and how technology can assist in this process. A facilitator trained in appreciative inquiry will lead the Austin based think tank on April 30. Other face-to-face simultaneous gatherings are being set up in cities throughout the United States, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. Texas (TSAE) was among the first states to express its intention to participate with a face-to-face one day simultaneous “host site” on April 30. “One of my goals for 2008 was to strengthen and streamline TSAE’s relationship with ASAE,” said Jim Boon, TSAE chairman. “This is an innovative conversation and a practical side benefit is learning about the appreciative inquiry method as a tool of collaboration. “I am delighted to have Texas sitting at the table with ASAE and The Center and weighing in on this discussion. In fact, three of our Texas members participated in the design team to help define the summit. Many of our TSAE member associations have good initiatives already in place. I, for one, am curious about how this global conversation can leverage the power of associations and our statewide leadership to the next level.” More information is on the TSAE Web site. We invite you to save this date and plan to participate. 42 Association LEADERSHIP | March/April 2008 http://TSAE.org
