Association Leadership - July/August 2008 - (Page 27) You are cordially invited to TWO SESSIONS. FOUR LOCATIONS. UNLIMITED OPPORTUNITIES. 1 LESSONS FROM THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS • $125 Sept. 10 • Fort Worth • The Ashton • 9:30-1:30 • Large Staff* Explore some of the most significant issues facing association executives today. Presented by: Texas Society of Association Executives & Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau. It is often said that “good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgment.” Or, “experience comes from learning the mistakes of others.” It is impossible to think the chief paid executive can be good at all things, particularly when you think of all hats he or she wears. Stay in this business long enough and mistakes, lapses in judgment and poor decisions will occur. This is a session designed exclusively to learn from the mistakes of others. Participants will engage in a candid discussion of some of their worst association experiences and what was learned as a result. A few of the lessons learned will include board and volunteer micromanagement, preventing and responding to employee fraud and the hidden pitfalls in your association bylaws. Each participant will be asked to come prepared to share their experience and offer advice to all as to how to avoid similar occurrences. Caution, you will need to check your ego at the door. Come together with your association colleagues and expert facilitator: CHRIS WILLISTON, CAE For lively, interactive and practical discussions and solutions. To ensure meaningful discussions, staff and budget size are considered. We encourage you to register for the session that is appropriate for your association’s staff and budget size. 2 MANAGING IN UNCERTAIN TIMES • $125 Oct. 28 • The Woodlands • Marriot Waterway • 9:30-1:30 • All Staff Sizes Dec. 3 • Austin • The Mansion at Judges Hill • 9:30-1:30 • Large Staff* We invite you to sign up for multiple sessions. However, due to the exclusive nature of the CEO Strategies program, each session is limited to 20 participants. Cost is $125 per session, due upon registration. Lunch and study materials are included. For the past 12 years we have been blessed with a dynamic, robust economy. Few would argue, however, that there are some economic storm clouds on the horizon that will likely pose new challenges for all chief paid executives of professional and trade associations. What impact will an economic slump have on your members and their companies? Membership in your association? Staffing? Traditional dues and non-dues revenue sources? Your ability to attract and engage volunteers? If drastic expense cuts are to be made, what would you cut first? The prudent executive is already making contingency plans to weather a potential economic storm. In this session, two seasoned association executives will lead a discussion on preparing and managing your organization in uncertain times in an attempt to develop best practices in economic contingency planning. Participants will leave with a template for proactive management. *Small Staff – Staff size less than 8 or budget of $1 million or less *Large Staff – Staff size more than 8 or budget of over $1 million For more information about the program, contact TSAE at (512) 444-1974
