Association Leadership - September/October 2008 - (Page 18) TSAE board members TSAE’s Newest Harry Savio, CAE Executive Officer Home Builders Association of Greater Austin Harry Savio graduated from North Texas State University with a Master’s degree in public administration. His first job was with the city of Austin in the Research & Budget Office, where he later became budget director. He left for the city of Harlingen to become assistant city manager and was later promoted to city manager. Harry made a career change in 1981 to become a partner in a building and development company that was dissolved in 1990. Looking for a way to combine his experience on two separate career paths, Harry went to work for the Home Builders Association as its vice president for government affairs, where he provided staff support to the building industry in Austin and the surrounding eight county areas. In 1999, he was promoted to executive vice president, where he serves as the chief administrative officer. Ben Boerner, CAE President Texas Grain & Feed Association Theresa Parsons, CAE Executive Director Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education Theresa Parsons, CAE, CMP, is executive director of the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education. With the exception of a one-year absence to work for a TCASE member, she has served in this role since September 1997. Theresa began her career as a reporter and editor of various daily and weekly newspapers and monthly magazines in Ohio and Washington, D.C. She served as director of communications for Sister Cities International, and then as a Washington correspondent on education policy and law for a national publications chain. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University. Ben is president of Texas Grain & Feed Association, a 110-year-old trade organization that represents the grain and feed handling and processing industry in Texas. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas A&M University. In 1997, Ben earned his certified association executive designation. In 2000, Ben graduated from the Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management. Ben also serves on the board of directors of the Facility Certification Institute. Ben’s an avid marathoner and HarleyDavidson motorcycle enthusiast. He and his wife, Denise, have three children, Rachel, 15; Ryan, 11; and Reagan, 8.
