Score Big By Meredith Sawyer, PHR and Johanna Sweet, SPHR Virginia Universities at the Southeast Regional HR Games! A total of four Virginia teams competed at the Southeast Regional Student Conferences and Games held the weekend of April 18-19 on the campus of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Two teams from both Virginia Commonwealth University and Liberty University represented Virginia among the 18 teams from across the Southeast Region. As the competition came to a close, teams from both Liberty and VCU competed in the semiﬁnal rounds. HRGames is an event for SHRM student chapters designed to foster friendly competition between universities. And the winner is . . . VCU, having placed ﬁrst in the Southeast Regional Games! This is the ﬁrst time that a Virginia school has won the regional competition. Members of the winning VCU Gold team are Lauren Philip (captain), Tashea Lipscomb and Annette Martell. Each student receives a $500 scholarship from SHRM. SHRM also covered the team’s travel expenses and registration for the 2008 National SHRM Conference in Chicago this past June. SHRM hosted a dinner in Chicago honoring all regional champions. Showcasing outstanding sportsmanship, Liberty University was awarded the Collegiality Award at the Regional Games. This special award goes to the team that exempliﬁes professionalism, a positive attitude and respect for fellow competitors and is determined by both peer and professional vote.
