Taylor, SPHR President This poem, Everyone looks and searches for gold in some form or fashion. by Jayti Gupta, takes one on a hunt for treasure. What is a hunt for treasure? As we explore the unknown, search for a fortress, looking for a world within, we hunt for that hidden treasure, the “buried gold.” Everyone looks and searches for gold in some form or fashion. It may be in our personal endeavors, our careers, the friendships we seek, our community activities or how and where we choose to spend our time and energy. Sometimes it is that seemingly unachievable goal that we want so desperately, but appears to be too far out of reach. But that rainbow can be attained; as we all know, anything is possible, and once we reach the pot of gold, how delightful it is—a world within itself, full of life, treasure and opportunity! This year, in October, we as HR professionals have the opportunity to search for our treasure, the treasure of knowledge. The Virginia State Conference theme is UNLOCKING THE TREASURE. Knowledge is power, and by unlocking the treasure, we open the door to knowledge and expand our learning. Knowledge becomes the treasure, the buried gold we all want to obtain. On October 22 – 24, we will be on a treasure hunt and given keys to ﬁ nd the treasure. There are 3 keys: Foundation, Professional and Leadership. Where you are on your hunt determines which key you receive to unlock the treasure. The different keys focus on building, developing, strengthening or supporting your knowledge base. The Richmond Human Resources Management Association is host to this year’s conference being held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The conference committee has spent numerous hours working on providing a conference that informs, educates and moves you to search for your next treasure. Many dynamic speakers will be present to assist you with pursuing your treasure. And of course, FUN is sprinkled throughout the 3 days of the conference! As you page through this issue of the magazine, you will discover more detailed information about the conference. So as we set sail, ﬁ nd the key, seek the treasure and unlock the gold waiting for us, I look forward to UNLOCKING THE TREASURE with you in October.
