Menu of Menus - 2007 - (Page 4) food, glorious food umboldt County has it going on when it comes to dining possibilities. We know this isn’t San Francisco. It’s sparsely populated and remote. That’s why we’re here; for a little peace and quiet. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to get our grub on. As you’ll discover in our big, bad dining guide, this area has a lot of culinary delights to offer. In fact, by some estimates, we actually have more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. So whaddaya want? Steak and wine? We’ve got that. Tofu burgers and beer? No problem. Cookies and a cappuccino? Done. Enchiladas? Forget about it. We’re talkin’ elegant to funky-fusion, ultra-healthy to greasy goodness, Japanese to Jamaican — the best food and drink on the North Coast is at your fingertips. We like to think of the Menu of Menus — MoM, as it’s called around the office — as the mother of Humboldt County dining directories. Creating it is a labor of love. The first edition was a svelte 88-page affair, but this year it ballooned to this 104-page behemoth, similar to ones you find in the city. It’s the first comprehensive list ever compiled for this region, with sample menus (prices and items subject to change) and details about 80+ restaurants, wineries, diners, brew pubs, hot dog stands and cafés in our redwood oasis. From burgers in Willow Creek to Creole in Garberville and all the favorites in between, we’ve included it here. For quick reference, we’ve broken the list down by region on pg. 4 — SoHum, the Eel River region, Eureka, Arcata and NoHum — and by food type on pg. 102. And new this year is a guide to local wineries (pg. 58). So start grazing. Whether you’re determined to dazzle your bon vivant sister-in-law visiting from Boston or you just want to get something fast and cheap, you can find the appropriate eatery in here. The Menu of Menus will be an annual issue, so if you have suggestions or you want to include a new restaurant next time around, let us know. In the meantime, keep the Menu of Menus by your phone book, or in your pocketbook, or somewhere handy, and get the scoop on what’s cooking in Humboldt. Enjoy!
