Few places evoke the wonder of Alaska. Misty coastal rain forests give way to a rugged arctic interior checkered with towering mountain ranges. Glaciers appear deceptively silent until a startling crack reminds you they are flowing rivers of ice. in summer, whales come here to feed. in winter, you could walk across the ice to Siberia. So few people live here that if you spread them out equally, they’d be a mile apart. but those who do are sturdy: they play midnight baseball without lights and race dog sleds hundreds of miles over mountains and tundra in sub-zero temperatures just for fun. unlike any place on earth, Alaska is filled with the unexpected and the indelible. You may leave Alaska, but Alaska will never leave you.
