Make the Move - 2010-11 National Implementation of the U.S. Physical Activity Plan - (Page 47)
In the context of the National Physical Activity Plan, the term “public health organization” is defined broadly to include public health agencies and non-government organizations. These organizations complement the health care delivery system and community sectors to monitor, protect, and promote prevention and the public’s health. The Public Health Sector consists of a competent workforce with resources and tools readily available to collaborate and partner with multiple sectors of society to encourage and promote physical activity through policy implementation, advocacy, education, practice, and research. Systems are in place to monitor and report on the success of implementation. Resources for public health are commensurate with the burden of physical inactivity.
