AudioMedia - June 2008 - (Page 41) MERGING > session itself for mixing,“ says Larrieu. “Or maybe exported through AAF or OMF, to Pro Tools, or Nuendo, or other machines in the workflow or if we’ve been recording in BWF format, and not our proprietary PMF, these takes could essentially be consolidated as is, and sent to be recorded directly to Pro Tools or Nuendo hard disk over network. “So there’s no copy time necessary, you can retain all of your sub clips, and if you exported an AAF session, you’d have a very clean version of your editing – all your offsets and all your editing choices and any changes you’ve made to clip names and things of that sort is retained. And you’ll also have the actual bin of every clip recorded, pre-named in an intelligent ADR fashion in a way that we actually know exactly what was recorded, no matter what.” In itself, the Merging ADR Package is a module in a much bigger picture, where Merging imagines every part of the post production chain taken care of by Pyramix in whatever guise it comes – the new and powerful MassCore-based virtual studio package, or the native version for the ‘satellite’ positions. VCube rounds off the system and will be with you all the way up to K HD (and counting). However, it’s not an insignificant part – not just an extra plug-in to grapple with. It’s a full-on ADR session manager with enough flexibility to satisfy even the most complex sessions. Most importantly though it does what you want it to – it doesn’t ask for any big shifts in working practice from the people it serves. In context with the rest of the Merging line up, you could say it’s a very nice fit. Larrieu sums up the big picture: “Pyramix is a DAW, and it is a machine with full automation. If you were in a workflow The Big Pic ture “Merging imagines every part of the post production chain taken care of by Pyramix in whatever guise it comes.” with Pyramix at the heart of your studio, you could do all your editing, your library work, your ADR, your music reporting, pre-mixing, mixing, and mastering of any elements of any sort within Pyramix – handle any spotting, or importing of spotting, printing the paper, ingesting with VCube, using VCube as a playback machine, and even creating billing versions of your casting elements, or your finished product that was down-mixed in Pyramix. Sound can be wrapped to the original image in just about any format, at any resolution, and given to someone either by digital delivery or on a DVD for validation, and archive purposes. So it’s the entire chain in one machine, the only thing we don’t have is our own microphone and loudspeaker.” ∫ I N F O R MAT I O N £ Pyramix ADR Package starts from €1,500 A Merging Technologies S.A.
