AudioMedia - July 2008 - (Page 15) Presented by www.munro.co.uk Sonacom Among First To Invest In Xynergi P ost production specialist Sonacom has transformed its facility in Neuilly sur Seine, by installing Fairlight Xynergi desktop media creation systems in each of its four High Definition 5.1 surround sound studios. The full service facility, which counts major French broadcasters and advertising agencies among its clients, managed the transformation in less than three days with the help of technical staff from Fairlight’s French distributor, EuroMedia Technologies. Denis Derigent, Managing Director of EuroMedia Technologies, says: “We started the installation on Friday night and had to have it completed by Monday morning in time for a client booking. Sonacom is one of the first Fairlight customers in the world to completely transfer to Xynergi, and the main challenge we faced was ensuring that the engineers adapted to their new environment in such a short timeframe. It was very tough and very sudden, but they were incredibly motivated. By Monday morning, everything was running perfectly and the engineers were already working confidently with their new equipment.” Sonacom’s decision to switch to Xynergi was based on a desire to implement a fast editing and mixing interface that would allow it to speed up workflow without compromising stability and synchronisation. The facility already had a good relationship with Fairlight, having started with an MFX3 before upgrading to Dream Station powered by QDC. Dominique Perrin, CEO of Sonacom, says: “Fairlight has always offered the fastest workstation on the market, and we’ve had very good experiences with its products. By combining Xynergi with Fairlight’s Crystal Core Digital media engine, we now have all the tools we need for high-end audio for video production in all widely used surround formats.” Perrin adds that Xynergi’s Macro functionality and open format architecture made it the right choice for Sonacom, especially as it allows the facility to network all four studios and control audio and video from the same engine. “We have an intense workload, therefore it is very important that we use every minute of studio time productively,” he says. “When clients arrive they want to know exactly how long their project will take – and the sooner we can complete the project, the happier they are. Installing Xynergi systems into each of our studios has already enabled us to speed up our workflow, and as we become increasingly familiar with the features offered by Crystal Core and Xynergi, we are finding even more ways of working faster.” Alongside its four Xynergi media production centres with Pyxis track SD/HD Video, UR FREE ORDER YO UE (352 CATALOG Sonacom has also installed six Xynergi 12 fader Sidecars with metering units, five SX-48 MADI interfaces, and a centralised AudioBase3, which is localised onto two large 16TB redundant servers. “The Crystal Core engines are perfect for our facility, because they take up very little space,” Perrin adds. “Another key selling point was Xynergi’s ability to support many different file formats, because we never know what file format our clients are going to arrive with. Equally important was the sound quality that Xynergi delivers – and the fact that it works with HD video. The evolution possibilities offered by Crystal Core undoubtedly make this system the best in terms of quality, functionality, and price.” Sonacom is now planning to install an AV-Process 3.0 CCE (Crystal Core edition), a new tool developed by EuroMedia Technologies and supported by Fairlight, which allows facilities to automate their entire production workflow. “The engineers at Sonacom are a dream team to work with because they are so willing to share their knowledge and experience of how products work in the field,” Denis Derigent adds. “This gave us a real opportunity to feed back to the R&D engineers at Fairlight, who are always willing to improve the macro functionalities of Fairlight products so that end users get exactly what they want. In today’s business, this type of cooperation between a manufacturer and an end user is something that is rarely seen.” Bulk Cables Premade Cables Connectors Headphones KID BROADC AS T Distribution Systems Modular Systems – AMPLIFIERS – Active Components OEM Manufacturing – Lo rls Court Live at Ea 2008 10 Sept. 7– ndon / GB 5 Booth M4 Visit us !
