One of the technological highlights of the Frankfurt MusikMesse earlier this year was the upcoming version 2.0 of Celemony’s acclaimed Melodyne software, which incorporates Direct Note Access technology, allowing users to edit individual notes within polyphonic audio material, change the pitch of those notes, change the key, and so on. Unity Audio and Blue Coconut’s recently introduced BlueCoconutUnity brand’s EchoVerb, a tape echo unit designed from the ground up by former Watkins/WEM freelance consultant Terry MacDonald. To that end, it aims to eliminate problems associated with early tape echo, improving performance, while retaining the distinctive analogue tape echo sound. Orpheus is Prism Sound’s latest multi-channel FireWire recording interface, a 192kHz-capable, 19-inch rack-mountable (1U) device, offering eight simultaneous balanced analogue inputs, four line-level jack inputs, four auto-sensing mic/line Neutrik combi jacks, switchable SPDIF/ AES-EBU stereo digital input, eightchannel ADAT optical input, and built-in mixer, plus high-quality mic pre-amps – fully software-controllable via PCand Mac-compatible control applications. www.celemony.com www.unityaudio.co.uk www.prismsound.com Euphonix’s new Artist Series line of Ethernetbased DAW controllers was certainly the talk of the hi-tech contingent at the NAMM Show – and rightly so. Available in two flavours, the MC Mix offers eight faders, channel control buttons, rotary encoders, and OLED displays; the MC Control offers four faders, but with the addition of a large colour screen with encoders and user-definable buttons, as well as transport control, and more. HHB’s DualBurn CDR-882 Dual Drive CD Recorder’s genuine REC-REC drive configuration supports seamless extended recording times across two or more discs, simultaneous recording of two discs, and high-speed duplication, making it suitable for a wide range of professional applications, including broadcast, music production, live sound recording, and duplication. Additional features include onboard scenes with an intuitive recall system, automation to timecode, flying faders, and sample rates up to 96kHz. KRK Systems’ ERGO is a digital room analysis and correction system (based on Lyngdorf Audio’s patented Room Perfect 3D room analysis and correction algorithms), that purportedly improve any studio mixing space by correcting ‘real world’ acoustic problems. ERGO connects via FireWire when analysing, though all processing is internal, and even doubles up as a four-input/ six-output audio interface. DPA Microphones’ recently launched 4017 is a short and exceptionally lightweight shotgun microphone offering a highly directional pickup pattern. The Danish company also worked hard on the practicalities of its design, weighing in at only 71g with a short body length of 210mm.
