The XDED Dolby E Decoder is a slide-in Stagetec board that splits Dolby E-encoded stream into eight channels. www.stagetec.com SE Electronics made a splash by showing its new RNR1 active ribbon microphone on the first day of the show. The microphone is the result of a collaboration between one Rupert Neve (discrete circuits and custom design transformers), Siwei Zou, and SE Electronics (capsule and chassis design). www.seelectronics.com Solid State Logic announced a major upgrade to the AWS 900+ Analogue Workstation System. The AWS 900+ SE features the MIDI over Ethernet system introduced this year with the SSL Matrix console. www.solid-state-logic.com Sonifex showed its Reference Monitor range of 1U rack-mounted audio monitors; the RM-CA2 and RM-CAD8. The company’s stall also featured two new Dolby decode cards for use with the RM-4CE Reference Monitor. www.sonifex.co.uk PT On Its Way! Digidesign offered a preview of Pro Tools , the imminent evolution of its popular and long-running audio creation and production software, to visitors at the th AES convention in San Francisco. The new software is due to be released before the end of the year, and will include updated versions of Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools LE, and Pro Tools M-Powered. Perhaps the most immediately noticeable new feature for Pro Tools  is an aesthetic one. The new user interface, which has been streamlined to give a modern appearance, features higher-contrast text and graphics, as well as a more striking colour palette. However, this rejuvenated exterior is home to a dramatically expanded set of creative tools and features designed for a vast range of applications for use by composers, musicians, producers, and project studio owners. Users of Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered will be able to create larger mixes than ever; these programs have been expanded to support up to  simultaneous audio tracks. This number can be further increased for users of Pro Tools LE by the addition of the Music Production Toolkit  or DV Toolkit , boosting the number to a hefty  mono or stereo tracks. And if  tracks still just isn’t enough, by combining both toolkits with the new Complete Production Toolkit, users will be able to reach the dizzying heights of  simultaneous audio tracks, with the added bonus of . surround mixing. Pro Tools  will also include Elastic Pitch; a newly developed piece of transposition software. For users familiar with previous incarnations of Pro Tools, this software works on a similar principle to the tempo and time manipulation tool, Elastic Time. Elastic Pitch is flexible to a variety of applications, allowing users to transpose an entire audio region in semitones, without effecting timing or tempo, fix imperfections on individual notes in recorded vocals by cent intervals, or create unique sounds by linking pitch changes with time compression and expansion using the Varispeed algorithm. As a result of Digidesign’s acquisition of Sibelius, Pro Tools  will feature a new Score Editor, with input via either the use of manual notation tools, or MIDI transcription via real-time, imported, or step-entry. This program will also be capable of exporting sessions as .sib files for further attention in Sibelius. “Our customers provide a comprehensive real-world knowledge base that we draw upon for inspiration and guidance.” stated Avid Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Dave Lebolt, “It’s a synergy of size and scope unique to Pro Tools in the world of audio.” Pro Tools  is due to be released in December . www.digidesign.com IBC Review SoundToys released its V3.1 plug-ins generation, thereby adding full VST support for both Mac and PC for the SoundToys Native Effects bundle. www.soundtoys.com SPL entered the digital domain at AES with The Transient Designer and a series of EQs. The company is so confident in the digital reproduction of its analogue products that it has named them The Analogue Code plug-ins. www.soundper formancelab.com Summit provided a welcome innovation in the analogue domain with its new ECS-410 Everest Tube/ Transistor mic pre-amp. This unit offers mic-pre, dual-mode dynamics, drive section, and threeband passive EQ, plus the TouchPatch routing system (combination of section routing) and individual I/O for each section. www.summitaudio.com TiMax showed the next generation of its audio matrix systems; the TiMax2 SoundHub for live show control, and the TiMax Tracker systems integrator. www.outboard.co.uk TL Audio launched the M1-F Tube Tracker console, hand built in England and available in eight- and 12-channel configurations.
