AudioMedia - November 2008 - (Page 61) PRODUCT SAMPLER The NAGRA VI from Nagra Audio is a softwaredependent six channel digital audio recorder. The first four independent analogue audio inputs are equipped with traditional Nagra microphone pre-amps for dynamic and phantom +48V microphones, whilst the remaining two analogue inputs are line level inputs for connection to other line level signal supplying equipment. The NAGRA VI is delivered with a removable battery box containing a lithium-ion battery pack, a mains power supply, with a 120GB internal hard disk. Based on the original LRX, Sadie’s LRX 2 Location Audio Workstation improves on its predecessor by streamlining surface controls and providing additional DSP power, enabling up to 64 inputs using the MADI interface, or 48 phantom-powered, balanced analogue inputs. The hardware consists of a small assignable mixer with eight motorised faders, an editorial interface with jog wheel and editing buttons, and a headphone monitor output. | LO C AT I O N T O O L S Yellowtec launched the iXM digital recording microphone at this year’s IBC in Amsterdam. The iXM features exchangeable Beyerdynamic microphone heads (omni-directional, cardioid, and supercardioid) to suit varying needs. Files are stored on an exchangeable SD memory card as WAV, BWF, MP2 or MP3, and can be accessed via a mini USB port. The Yellowtec iXM also features a line input and can be powered by three AA batteries and/or a built in rechargeable Li-Ion battery. Shipping is due to begin in the first week of December 2008. www.nagraaudio.com www.sadie.com www.yellowtec.com The Olympus LS-10 is a handheld digital recorder, powered by two AA batteries and targeted primarily at musicians, in addition to journalists and students. It records audio in uncompressed 24-bit/96kHz Linear PCM for digital stereo recordings in WAV, WMA, or MP3 format. The LS-10 has 2GB of internal Flash memory, an SD/SDHC card slot, 14 hours battery life, and ships with Steinberg CUBASE LE 4 Sound editing software. The Sennheiser MKE 1 is a professional clip-on microphone with a tiny omni-directional mic, measuring just 3.3mm across. It is designed to operate in harsh live conditions and can be provided with a multi-purpose cap to protect it from wind and divert moisture past the microphone; particularly useful for sweaty stage shows. The reliability afforded by this protection is reinforced by an acoustically open stainless steel membrane surrounding the capsule, in addition to all of the contacts being housed within the casing or the moulded coating. The Zaxcom Fusion is a high resolution audio mixer and recorder for reality television, surround recording, and ENG. The Fusion is controlled by a full-colour touch screen and incorporates eight low noise, low distortion microphone pre-amps. Each of the eight inputs can be switched between mic and line level operation, and feature a powerful 48V phantom power supply. The Fusion can mix 16 inputs to eight output busses, and record up to eight tracks to two internal Compact Flash cards, creating a 100% solid-state recording with backup. www.olympus.co.uk www.sennheiser.co.uk www.zaxcom.com The Zoom H2 was designed to provide brilliant stereo recording in an easy-to-use, ultraportable device. To this end, the H2 has dual X/Y configured stereo mics facing front and rear, effectively producing a surround sound capture device minus the ‘centre’ and sub. The H2 records to an SD card in 24-bit/96kHz linear PCM, MP3, or 24-bit/48kHz 4-channel 360°. It is also supplied with a 512MB SD card and has the potential to accommodate up to a 16GB SDHC card. RØDE Microphones’ NTG-3 is a precision shotgun microphone aimed at the professional broadcast and film industries. Combining low weight (163g), low handling and self-noise (13dBA), and RF-bias technology with a price accessible to the consumer market, this third generation microphone has been a popular topic recently. “The NTG-3 has amazingly low handling noise, which will make it a boom operator’s dream mic” observed Australian sound recording guru, Ric Creaser. www.rodemic.com Sound Devices introduced a new addition to its 7-Series line of digital audio recorders at NAB 2008. Sound Devices’ goal was to create a product with more than four tracks, without a size, weight, or cost penalty. The 788T 8- track recorder is designed specifically for flexible multi-track on location productions, with eight full featured microphone inputs and eight tracks of recording. The subsequent need for increased data storage is handled by a 160 GB, 2.5” internal SATA hard disk drive, which translates into around 30 hours of 8-track, uncompressed 24-bit audio. www.sound devices.com www.zoom.co.jp Rycote launched new wind-stoppers suitable for portable recorders at IBC 2008. The Mini Windjammer is a simple lined fur cover that fits over the microphone and any existing foam cover, where it is secured by a touch-fastener strap. Once in place, the Mini WindJammer gives 30-40dB protection against strong winds and is also available in a 30mm ‘long’ fur version for extreme conditions. The product is designed to minimise the reduction of high frequencies inherent in the use of microphone covers, and is available for a range of microphones and portable recorders. Recently showcased at the 125th AES Convention, the SPS200 A-Format microphone is the first SoundField microphone that does not require an accompanying control unit, instead relying on the Surround Zone sof t ware that comes pack aged as standard. The microphone is powered by standard 48v phantom power and incorporates four low-noise, studio grade condenser capsules. A short break-out cable outputs on four balanced XLRs, ensuring increased compatibility. The Zoom H4 is a handheld digital audio recorder featuring two studio-quality electret condenser mics configured in an X/Y pattern for stereo recording. It can also accommodate external mics via two phantom powered combination XLR-1/4” input jacks. The H4 can provide four hours of continuous recording from two AA batteries, and records to USB accessible SD media. The H4 also has a four track recording mode for mobile multi-track recording and is capable of rendering four track audio with 16-bit/44.1kHz resolution. www.rycote.com www.sound eld.com www.zoom.co.jp AUDIO MEDIA NOVEMBER 2008 61 http://www.nagraaudio.com http://www.yellowtec.com http://www.sadie.com http://www.sennheiser.co.uk http://www.olympus.co.uk http://www.zaxcom.com http://www.rodemic.com http://www.sounddevices.com http://www.zoom.co.jp http://www.rycote.com http://www.soundfield.com http://www.zoom.co.jp
