The London sound team was nominated in the drama category for its work on BBC One thriller Criminal Justice. The Bristol sound team was nominated in the entertainment and nondrama productions category, for its work on BBC Two wildlife show Natural World, Badgers-Secrets of the Sett. The London team designed a disorientating prison soundscape for Criminal Justice. As the production budget was limited, they had to give the impression of more prisoners than there were extras on set. To achieve this, Sound Designer Kian Wong created an off-camera narrative, using dialogue recorded on location. “These conversations, which came with natural reverb and acoustics, poked through the main dialogue to provide authenticity,” explained Wong. The East of England Production Innovation Centre, EPIC, is part of a 1.5 millionpound development. The project included the design and realisation of HD production workflows, and installation of fibre-optic studio infrastructure. “With all the systems integrators that pitched for the upgrade work, we explained the type of systems that we knew we would need, but left it up to the SIs to shade in the finer details,” explained EPIC’s Head of Engineering, David Hazel.
