AudioMedia - December 2008 - (Page 48) MOTU | DP6 > handy tools offer a manner of manipulating audio in ways that were previously impossible in Digital Performer. Multiple mixdowns are now possible within a single session in a single mixer. The Mix Mode menu in the Mixing Board lets you create, save, edit, and switch between multiple mixdowns of your project. This makes it effortless to create and use multiple mixes. Since a ‘mix’ in DP consists of all volume, pan, mix automation, and current plug-ins inserted on tracks, this provides complete independence among separate mixes. For example, you could simply set initial volume and pan settings for each track, create a mix, duplicate it, adjust the faders, and then switch back and forth between the two mixes. You can then freely switch between them, comparing the fader settings, without the need to insert or print any automation data. Holy Moly! With Direct audio CD burning, you can simply drop your songs into a track, add markers for index points anywhere you want, add DP’s fade and automation tools, and apply mastering plug-in processing as desired. Then, choose ‘Bounce to Disk’ with a format of ‘Burn Audio CD’. DP creates a standard audio CD for use in any CD player and can also create a disk image for easy replication and archiving. Never has it been easier to create a preview CD for a client and drop it off at FedEx. With this added feature along with DP’s powerful Waveform Editor, it is safe to call Digital Performer a fully fledged mastering application. DP delivers significant per formance Feel The Burn gains for DP’s included MAS instruments and third-party Audio Unit instruments alike. You can now run many more sequenced virtual instrument tracks, as DP now pre-renders instrument track output before playback actually begins, allowing the computer’s CPU to distribute the required processing beforehand, rather than in real time. You’ll use instruments in the same familiar way, just more of them at the same time. Because they are now pre-rendered, instrument tracks can now be included in Bounce to Disk operations without the need to ‘freeze’ the instrument track beforehand. The ability to bounce a VI is amazing, and something I never thought would be possible. With DP comes two new serious plugins: The MasterWorks Leveler, and ProVerb. The MasterWorks Leveler is an accurate model of the legendary Teletronix LA- A optical leveling amplifier, known for its unique and highly soughtafter Automatic Gain Control (AGC) characteristics. This is a great sounding compressor with tons of attitude and vintage sound style. Deep and precise compression is not what the LA- A is about, and can be achieved instead with DP’s other premium dynamics processor: the MasterWorks Compressor plug-in. Because the opto-coupler type of signal detection is modelled so closely here, you may be achieving a fair amount of compression without New Plug I ns? > Lexicon Reinvents Reverb TECHNOLOGY Distributed in the UK and Eire by Sound Technology Tel: 01462 480000 www.soundtech.co.uk http://46 http://www.soundtech.co.uk
