AudioMedia - December 2008 - (Page 68) PRODUCT SAMPLER Line array systems have become a standard in the full range of venue applications, prompting manufacturers to release modules in a variety of dimensions. Between the size and scalability of any given array, significant flexibility now exists when planning your system. With this in mind, Audio Media presents a selection of the latest offerings from across the scale-spectrum, from micro to massive. Just spare a thought for Santa before adding any of the latter to your Christmas list – you may need to size-up your stocking. Adamson Systems Engineering’s Y-10 is a power ful sub-compact 3-way line array, featuring a single patented Adamson mid/high drive module. The Adamson drive module has a co-axial entrance and a co-linear exit comprised of a high frequency sound chamber mounted within a mid frequency sound chamber. The drive module is powered by a proprietary 9-inch Kevlar mid and a JBL 2451 compression driver. Alcons Audio claims that the LR7 possesses the industry ’s best throw to size ratio. The micro pro-ribbon line array gives 1:1 highoutput sound reproduction and weighs in at just 8kg. Loaded with the RBN401 pro-ribbon driver on a ‘Morpher’ lens with up to 94% frontal radiation, the system features a 90-degree or 120-degree dispersion of choice with seamless coverage, due to the ribbon’s all-natural cylindrical wavefront. Bose Professional Systems’ 300W Panaray MA12 Modular Line Array Loudspeaker comprises a vertical line array of 12x 2.25inch drivers to reproduce the complete critical vocal range with no crossover. Designed for use in single and multiple configurations in permanently installed indoor applications, its slim cabinet and choice of black or white finish make the system discrete. Line Arrays www.adamsonproaudio.com www.alconsaudio.com www.pro.bose.com Das Audio’s Aero is a series of compact line array systems for medium-scale sound reinforcement applications, such as theatres and houses of worship. The Aero 38 is an externally powered, medium format module that integrates low, mid, and high frequency transducers in a single unit. The module incorporates two 12 GNC loudspeakers, two 10LMN16 10-inch cone transducers, and one ND-10 large format compression driver. D&B Audiotechnik’s J-Series is aimed at largescale sound reinforcement applications. It consists of the J8 and J12 loudspeakers, in addition to the J-SUB cardioid subwoofer, that are acoustically matched and constructed to be mechanically compatible both in flown or groundstacked arrays. Both the J8 and J12 deliver a 48/85kHz-17kHz frequency response. The J8 features an 80-degree horizontal dispersion, and the J12 120-degree. Dynacord’s Xa-2 systems incorporate new Constant Q horns, patented planar waveguide bass horns, and neodymium components. The FX12 is a medium longthrow mid/high frequency cabinet with a coaxial design. The recommended frequency is 140Hz, 18dB/oct. Voice Coil Tracking Projection protects all transducers against thermal overload; the powerreducing circuit simulates the thermal behaviour of the transducers’ voice coils. www.dasaudio.com www.dbaudio.com www.dynacord.com EAW’s JFL210 compact line array module is a light-weight, mobile package employing constant-curvature line array design principles. The array, which can be flown or ground stacked, is aimed at small and medium-scale applications. Two 10-inch woofers deliver tight low-frequency performance, while the 3-inch compression driver is closely matched with a horn, providing precise directivity. These components contribute to a maximum peak output of over 130dB SPL. HK Audio claims that the ConTour Array ‘bridges the gap between conventional PA systems and large touring line arrays.’ To this end, the array targets itself at local rental companies and touring bands by providing a lightweight, scalable solution. A DualCurve rigging system enables the array to be tilted at 0 or 9 degrees, for long-throw and nearfield applications respectively. The system comprises the CTA 208 and CTA 118 SUB. JBL Professional’s enhanced Vertec series of line array modules feature the company’s latest generation of high-powered, lightweight transducers. The full-range, high-directivity VT4887A offers improved acoustical performance, and higher output capabilities with an extended low-frequency response of 55Hz via the new 2268J-1 eight-inch woofer, rising up to 22kHz – 10dB). It is ideally suited as a down fill element in multi-box arrays made of larger Vertec models. www.eaw.com www.hkaudio.com www.jblpro.com 68 AUDIO MEDIA DECEMBER 2008 http://www.pro.bose.com http://www.adamsonproaudio.com http://www.alconsaudio.com http://www.dasaudio.com http://www.dynacord.com http://www.dbaudio.com http://www.jblpro.com http://www.eaw.com http://www.hkaudio.com
