The event crowned Miss Russia, Kseniya Sukhinova as its winner, and was broadcast live over SABC to two billion people by 373 TV stations across more than 200 countries. The ceremony used the resources of six Gearhouse Group companies, encompassing a spectrum of technical production disciplines. Gearhouse Audio’s Dave Tudor designed an L-Acoustics sound system with nine Kudo boxes per side, making use of the K louver function by widely spacing the main hangs. This meant that the asymmetrical setting was able to minimise any reflections, and ensure even coverage. All three of the full HD outside broadcast trucks house Lawo mc266 digital consoles. When choosing a console, OSB’s Operations Manager Lex Walker had to consider the growing demand for surround sound on projects. This consideration, along with his experience with its equipment, encouraged Walker to invest in Lawo’s mc266. “When we chose Lawo, price was not the main factor,” explained Lex Walker, OSB’s Operations Manager. “There were other options we could have gone for that were less expensive, but none of those offered us the quality, power, and versatility of the Lawo consoles.” On Site Broadcasting www.osb.co.nz NEW PRODUCT FOR IMPROVED WORKFLOW Oxygen DCT has released a new universal GPI controller, and delivered the first batch to Channel Four Television. The new product aims to improve workflow and add versatility to broadcast studios and control rooms by giving fingertip control on the desktop. The OxBox GPI-Box6 is a compact desktop controller that allows general purpose interface functions to be controlled from six user-programmable push buttons, removing the need for users to design and manufacture custom control panels. The unit can drive TTL high and low outputs to external circuits, such as a router, switcher, or video monitor, and will also be available in IRU 19-inch rack-mount form.
