Product Sampler Trade Shows 2009 Broadcast 09 aims to familiarise an industry that is in the midst of a profound transformation with the latestgeneration technology designed to serve its changing needs. The show integrates all sectors, and provides a link to the academic world and authorities through workshops, seminars, and conferences. With ongoing advances rendering past technology obsolete, and the proliferation of both public and private broadcasting stations, Broadcast addresses the need for adaptive audiovisual equipment. The show will be held in Madrid, Spain, at the Feria de Madrid, from November 3-6. The 2009 NAB Show is due to be held in Las Vegas this April, and will include new pavilions and exhibitors showcasing the latest developments in 3D, mobile solutions, content, and IPTV. The Show will once again put content and the content lifecycle in the spotlight through the provision of over 1,600 exhibits, featuring the industry’s top innovators. Conferences will run from April 18-23, exhibits from April 20-23. “The new pavilions featured on the exhibit floor will allow content professionals from all sides of the broadcasting spectrum to come together to share experiences, explore opportunities, and examine new business models for distributing content over next generation platforms,” explained Executive Vice President of Conventions and Business Operations, Chris Brown. The Show returns to the voluminous surroundings of the Las Vegas Convention Centre, located near the Las Vegas Strip, and within walking distance of over 100,000 guest rooms. www.nabshow.com www.broadcast.ifema.es The Audio Engineering Society Convention is a bi-annual pro-audio event that combines exhibits with technical sessions and user seminars. Each year, AES is held once in Europe, and once in the US. It has generally been thought of as the key event for the world’s pure pro-audio industries. Attracting academics, engineers, and artists alike, its papers, workshops, and standards committee take up a large portion of the convention, running in parallel with the main exhibition. Traditionally, each event has a theme, a respected keynote speaker to officially open proceedings, and a packed programme of events. This year, the 126th AES Convention hits Munich from May 7-10. The Stateside event alternates between the east and west coast each year. This year, it’s east for the 127th AES Convention, to be held at New York’s Javits Center from October 9-12. IBC will be returning to Amsterdam’s RAI Centre in 2009, with conferences running from September 10-14, and exhibits from September 11-15. Last year ’s event broke all records for the show’s organisers, with 49,250 attendees from over 130 countries worldwide. The show housed more than 1,400 exhibitors, providing exclusive showcases, one-to-one meetings, and networking opportunities. The IBC awards ceremony-honoured projects as diverse as multi-platform content distribution, an idea to save studio lighting bills, and a system to bring 16 times the resolution of HD to our screens. www.aes.org www.ibc.org The international Prolight and Sound trade fair presents products from the fields of event and communication technology, audio-visual production, and entertainment. It runs for four days from April 1-4, in Frankfurt, Germany. Over these four days, the trade fair brings together exhibitors, trade visitors, dealers, and professional users at the Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre. Last year’s event attracted 112,000 visitors from 126 countries, in partnership with its parallel sister show Musikmesse. Musikmesse exhibitors give dealers, professional musicians, and music lovers an insight into the latest trends in musical instruments, sheet music, accessories, and computer hardware and software. However, the focus is not solely on music making. This year will see the third incarnation of the Musikbiz area at the fair, a separate exhibition hall dedicated to the marketing of music, labels, and publishers, as well as performance and further-education opportunities for musicians. www.prolight-sound.com NAMM hosts two trade shows in North America for the musical instruments and products industry in the year. First up, The NAMM Show 09 rolls into California’s Anaheim Convention Centre from January 15-18. Last year’s event saw nearly 90,000 visitors turn out to see over 1,500 exhibits. Later in the year, NAMM Summer Session will be returning to Nashville, Tennessee, from July 17-19.
