PRODUCT SAMPLER Dating back to 1977, the annual PLASA Show is a well-established technology trade event for the entertainment and installation industries. The exhibition has continuously attracted buyers and specifiers from around the world, and is now probably the UK’s most successful show in this arena. PLASA 2009 will be held from September 13-16 in Earls Court London. It will be the 32nd exhibition to be held in the venue by the Professional Lighting and Sound Association. PLASA is an international show, delivering the latest technology, product launches, and networking opportunities for retailers and buyers alike. The organisers claim that it is the UK’s only event dedicated to technology for production, post, delivery, audio-visual, and new media. The show hosts 200 leading manufacturers, with last year’s event attracting more exhibitors and visitors than any other UK industry event in over a decade. 2009’s show will be expanded to include more stands, seminars, workshops, and conference sessions. The show will run from February 17-19, in London’s Earls Court 2. www.broadcastvideoexpo.co.uk From July 16-18, the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre will play host to the 20th staging of PALME Asia. The show prides itself as being the most established international exhibition and conference showcasing sound, lighting, audio-visual, music, broadcast, and system installation in the South East Asia region. The show’s organisers state that last year’s event attracted a total attendance figure of 8,166 from over 30 countries. With a subtotal of 4,660 trade visitors, the show maintained its reputation as the largest gathering of industry professionals in the region. Over the last three years, the Develop Conference & Expo has established itself as the leading event for games design and development professionals in Europe. Develop 2009 will be held in Brighton from July 14-16. Last year, over 1,200 developers from every level descended on Brighton to meet, learn, share, and network with peers. The show aims to help today’s developers make better games with seminars, sessions, workshops, expositions, and networking opportunities. Each evening following the show, the organisers put on a series of beer-fuelled icebreakers, debates, and awards. www.palme-asia.com www.develop-conference.com The London International Music Show is back for its second year at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in the London Docklands, from June 11-14, 2009. The UK’s biggest music exhibition showcases over 200 top manufacturers, and incorporates four sections; Drummer Live, London Guitar Show, Unplugged, and Sound Recording Technology. Featuring professional musicians, an exhibition of the best MI brands, and a host of seminars and activities, this is a show for anyone with an interest in making music. Names are yet to be announced for 2009, but last year’s show featured artists such as Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Chad Smith, and Jason Bonham. Music Live is the place to check out the latest and greatest gear from the world’s most famous brands. The show is set to run in the Birmingham NEC from November 6-8, and will see the return of its Live Stage and Drum Clinics, an expanded Sounds Expo area, and a host of guest stars performing, signing, and meeting and greeting. Previous guest stars include Rick Parfitt, Chad Smith, and Duff McKagan. The show is due to take place from April 26-28 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre. Last year’s show attracted 272 exhibitors from 27 countries, and nearly 9,000 visitors, making it the biggest PALME to date. The 31st ABT T Theatre show will take place in London’ Royal Horticultural H a l l s f ro m J u n e 10-11. Attracting an expanding visitor base year on year, the ABTT Theatre Show’s core attendance comes from parties involved in equipping, refurbishing, and upgrading drama studios, theatres, and auditoria. Other frequent attendees include architects, consultants, and building services managers. In 2008, Siel, Satis, and Le Radio merged to create a single event, uniting the markets of audiovisual technology, live entertainment, event production, and radio broadcasting. 34,412 trade professionals converged on Paris to mark the coming together of the three shows.
