AudioMedia - January 2009 - (Page 64) www.audiomedia.com Legendary soul musician Ray Charles has been honoured in his hometown of Albany, Georgia. At the centre of a five acre park, Ray Charles Plaza features a lifesized statue of the renowned musician, sat at a grand piano and surrounded by fountains. A sound system with Community WET loudspeakers plays his music at the monument. The Community loudspeakers were chosen for their resistance to the elements, and hopefully therefore, fountains. w www.loudspeakers.net ADLIB Scouts For Gigs Scouting For Girl’s FOH Engineer talks about his experiences from the band’s recent UK tour. Front of House Engineer Andy Williamson recently worked with ADLIB Audio to create the sound system for Scouting for Girls’ UK tour. Having worked with ADLIB’s Andy Dockherty and Toby Szabo on previous gigs, he was keen to get the company onboard for their first full touring show together. “ADLIB work in a very personal way with all their clients, and I wanted a company that could guarantee this commitment to service and attention to detail,” he explained. The sound system for the tour was driven by the new LA amps with onboard processing, and consisted of eight V-DOSC elements per side, with six L-Acoustics SB subwoofers and four ground-stacked ARCS on each side. To help the system adapt to varying venues, they also carried dV-DOSC and four dVSUBS to act as side hangs. At Front of House, Williamson chose a DigiDesign Profile, into which he ran channels, utilising the console’s onboard processing and plug-ins. mixes and two IEM Sennheiser G Monitor Engineer Matt Simmons ran PM D console. DBX ADLIB Audio + () www.adlibaudio.co.uk Alcons Audio has introduced a compact pro-ribbon sound system to its product range. The CR1 is a three way sound system, designed to provide medium output, high quality cinema and A/V sound reproduction. It is designed for cinema theatres, screening rooms, dubbing stages, and surround sound recording applications. The MDF enclosure is 18cm deep, allowing it to be mounted behind the screen, stacked, or flown. w www.alconsaudio.com systems for guitarist Pete Clements and Drummer Pete Ellard, from a Yamaha SL compression ran in line with each set of IEMs, and a dvSUB at these positions added a bit of air and base movement. DPA At Cité De La Musique DPA Microphones’ French distributor Audio has provided DPA MSS microphone summation systems and miniature omnidirectional microphones to the Cité de la Musique in Paris for two Serge Gainsbourg tribute concerts. The concerts featured over voices, including those provided by Brigitte Fontaine, Martina Topley Bird, and Placebo’s Brian Molko. The large input count provided a challenge for the event’s sound engineers. However, using two MSS microphone summation systems, they were able to considerably reduce the number of inputs reaching FOH, and cutting the amount of cabling on stage. Razorlight are currently promoting their third studio album on a sellout tour. Guitar Technician Guy Cowen has updated the guitar rigs for the band’s hit tour to include the new Trantec S5.5 transmitter systems. “One thing that stands out is that I’m able to do three shows on one AA battery,” enthuses Cowen. “This will save us a fortune in batteries… the guitar sound has also improved.” w www.trantec.co.uk FOH Engineer Bruno Morain was also pleased with the performance of the DPA s. “The s were perfect for this application for several reasons,” he explained. “Firstly of course for their sound characteristics, but also for their mounting accessories… We s h o w e d t h e m u s i c i a n s how to attach the mics to their instruments just once, and they did it for themselves for the following rehearsals and concerts without any problems.” DPA Microphones + www.dpamicrophones.com 64 AUDIO MEDIA JANUARY 2009 http://www.audiomedia.com http://www.loudspeakers.net http://www.alconsaudio.com http://www.adlibaudio.co.uk http://www.trantec.co.uk http://www.dpamicrophones.com
