AudioMedia - March 2009 - (Page 35) PRO TOOLS 8 Thankfully, users are no longer bound to viewing and editing a single type of data on any given track, as the Show/Hide Automation Lane button found on each track in the Edit window makes it possible to simultaneously view and work with unlimited automation parameters. I’ve been begging for this feature since seeing it in Nuendo over half a decade ago. Pro Tools (HD only) now maintains a plug-in and mixer cache for allocated DSP when closing and opening sessions. This doesn’t change the time it takes to open the first session after launching Pro Tools, but all subsequent sessions open and close much faster. Noted In addition to Pro Tools Elastic Audio time compression and expansion capabilities, the new Elastic Pitch allows whole audio regions to be shifted in semitones and cents in the range of +/– octaves. Pitch transposition can be applied to the > Composing Easiness Much like Logic’s Quick Swipe Comping feature, the new track compositing workflow provides a quick, easy, and accurate way to create a composite performance. By using the Playlists view for an audio track, the best parts from a track’s alternate playlists can be selected and copied to the main playlist allowing the ‘perfect take’ to be created from multiple alternate playlists. Alternate playlists are displayed directly below the track in lanes, and can be edited in the Playlist view just like the main playlist in the Waveform view. As with tracks, playlist lanes can be re-ordered by simply clicking the name of the alternate playlist and then dragging it to the desired location. A region can be rated on a scale of - , which is useful for identifying preferred takes when compiling playlists. Playlist lanes can be viewed or hidden based on the ratings of regions in the playlist. NX Series Precision monitoring for recording studios and edit suites S AT E L L I T E L A U N C H While the main thrusts of Pro Tools have been the new MIDI features and other creation aspects, a few post production needs have been catered for recently with the introduction of Video Satellite and Satellite Link software options – both using the network connections to add remote system facilities. Satellite Link enables control and synchronisation of up to five Pro Tools|HD systems from a single transport, with near-sample accurate lock achieved via SYNC HD or SYNC I/O hardware. Any linked system can control transport. Video Satellite is another software option that allows Pro Tools HD users to open and play Avid HD or SD, or QuickTime HD material stored on a networked Windows machine running Avid Media Composer. Sync is maintained, without the need for complex transfers and so on. There's also a Video Satellite LE version which uses a peripheral Pro Tools LE Mbox Micro system for QuickTime HD or SD video, plus a connected Avid peripheral option for Avid SD video. Full of the latest in speaker technology and designed from the ground up for critical listening in recording facilities where a precise, transparent, professional sound is essential, the NX Series set new standards in sonic accuracy and packaging. Precision monitoring and audio performance of this calibre has never been so affordable.
