AudioMedia - March 2009 - (Page 57) PRODUCT SAMPLER Boasting an impressive bass response down to 25Hz, PMC’s IB2S-A three-way monitor is the powered version of the IB2S, which has been endorsed by a succession of high-profile clients. The monitor employs PMC’s unique Advanced Transmission Line technology, which PMC believes generates detailed, natural sound with room filling acoustics, plus bass that still registers at low volumes. Identical tonal balance also makes them suitable for surround sound mixing. Quested has had installations in famous facilities since the 1970’s. The S Series of compact, self-powered loudspeakers is its most recent monitoring product, and includes the S6, with a 130mm bass driver (65W) and 20mm soft dome tweeter (45W); the S7, which manages 140W and 80W RMS from its 165mm LF driver and 28mm tweeter respectively; while the S8 tops out at 22W (LF) and 150W (HF) from its larger (200mm) bass cone/ 28mm tweeter. | STUDIO MONITORS Tannoy’s new precision range employs its dual concentric driver technology (two drivers in one). According to Tannoy, this ensures that sound comes from a single position achieving a ‘true point source’. Incorporated wideband technology allows EQ enhancement to pinpoint specific instruments, and Activ-Assist software automatically works out optimal settings for the DIP switch equalisation features on the amplifier. www.pmc-speakers.com www.quested.com www.tannoy.com Swiss outfit PSI’s active range of stereo monitor systems amalgamates its CPR (Compensated Phase Response) and AOI (Adaptive Output Impedance) technologies in four model sizes. CPR technology removes phase irregularities in PSI speakers combined to form a surround sound system, maintaining an accurate phase response throughout. AOI technology modifies amplifier activity providing highly accurate impulse behaviour with a minimum of transducer colouration. Samson’s versatile active range MediaOne comprises the 3a, 4a, and 5a active studio monitors with 3-inch, 4-inch, and 5-inch extended range co-polymer woofers and 25mm silk dome tweeters, plus precision tuned, rearvented enclosures that provide an extended low frequency response. The master speaker houses a stereo power amplifier that drives both monitors and also contains an auxiliary input for any other device with a stereo line level signal. The MSP range from Yamaha features the MSP7 and MSP5, the former being larger, and the latter, littler, for more restricted environments. The MSP7 has an 80W power amplifier for its 6.5inch cone woofer, while the 1-inch tweeter dome has a 50W amp. Yamaha claims that its main weapon is the steep roll-off between the low- and high-pass filters generating “smoother, cleaner crossover performance in the critical mid-range.” www.psi-audio.com www.samsontech.com www.yamaha.com www.audient.com http://www.quested.com http://www.tannoy.com http://www.pmc-speakers.com http://www.yamaha.com http://www.psi-audio.com http://www.samsontech.com http://www.audient.com
