AudioMedia - March 2009 - (Page 66) PRODUCT SAMPLER 03|09 AM Mixing Consoles Nearly a year on since our last update, Audio Media presents the latest and greatest products from a cross section of console manufacturers. Allen & Heath’s GL2800 dedicated live sound monitor mixer is a compact and affordable addition to its popular GL series. Sixteen mixes can be globally assigned as mono and stereo, with each stereo mix providing level and pan control as well as stereo AFL signal checking. A plethora of handy tools includes independent talkback to each performer and FOH, swept HPF on each mix to cut unwanted low end, and built-in mic splitter. Cadac’s S-Digital mixing console transports the looks, features, and audio quality of its analogue predecessor, the J-Type, and introduces them to the digital age. The aim was to create a digital mixing console that “sounds, looks, and behaves like a familiar analogue desk” for use in the theatre sound industry. It features 72 input channels, 66 mix busses, and three stereo listen busses. It seems almost every company producing live mixing consoles has been updating, improving, or launching new products this year as digital technology continues to redefine the boundaries of live sound. Audio Media has been snooping around for the latest releases to bring you bang up to date with the best out there. Digidesign’s flagship model, the D-Show live sound control surface, was designed with input from some of the world’s leading mix engineers in touring sound, theatre, and fixed installations. It is fully compatible with all Venue I/O components and Venue software (running D-Show 2.5 or higher), ensuring complete show file portability. The fully expandable (46-56) frame’s fader strips incorporate EQ, inserts, dynamics in/out, and safe switches. www.glseries.com www.cadac-sound.com www.digidesign.com The iLive-T series from Allen & Heath condenses the technology and performance of the iLive range into a compact and affordable digital mixer. It features a remote stagebox, digital snake, and Ethernet control on top of 64 channels – each incorporating dynamics, parametric EQ, HPF, and delay, while the 32 mix outputs have parametric EQ, delay, and graphic EQ. Also included are eight stereo FX processors as part of the 64x32 RackExtra DSP engine. DiGiCo’s SD7 is a culmination of five years’ work and hails itself as “two generations in one step”. Its engineering design was inspired by the aviation, marine, and automotive industries where demanding environments required robust new materials. Powerful DSP is managed by the new Stealth mixing and routing engine based on Super FPGA, while Tiger Sharc technology hosts an arsenal of effects. Digidesign’s live sound range, Venue, has a compact addition in the D-Show Profile, a ‘sizeconscious’ version of the D-Show control surface for use in small- to mid-sized environments. The 24-channel frame ensures familiarity for engineers already using the D-Show. Profile also features eight General Purpose Interface (GPI) inputs and eight GPI outputs to connect and control any external equipment that can react to simple switch closure. www.ilive-digital.com www.digico.org www.digidesign.com Audient has been producing live-performance related hardware since 1997. The Aztec live performing mixing console continues this focus and is designed specifically for the sound reinforcement professional, with a lightweight frame that endears it to both mobile applications and fixed installation. Features include: 4-band EQ with parametric mids, sweep HF and LF with switched bell/shelf curves, and a sweep hi-pass filter. www.audient.com The SD8 from DiGiCo is the company’s most affordable console yet, with a compact design incorporating Super FPGA technology and floating point processing technology transplanted from the SD7. The latest Tiger Sharc FX engine enables a wide array of EQ and dynamics to be applied to the 60 strong interchangeable mono or full stereo audio channels, all topped off by a 15” touch sensitive TFT LCD. Innovason’s mixing and recording console Eclipse, is equally at home with FOH, monitors, or in an OB van. The control surface comprises 48 faders and 48 fully configurable rotary knobs, the latter being assignable to internal effects from VB Audio through the SmartPanel system. Fully processed, configurable balanced XLR outputs offer a choice between analogue, AES, or ADAT over fibreoptic. www.digico-sd8.com www.innovason.com 66 AUDIO MEDIA MARCH 2009 http://www.glseries.com http://www.cadac-sound.com http://www.digidesign.com http://www.digidesign.com http://www.ilive-digital.com http://www.digico.org http://www.innovason.com http://www.audient.com http://www.digico-sd8.com
