AV Technology - June 2008 - (Page 55) A M X GUIDE TO SY S T E M IN T E G R AT I O N PR A C T I C E S Each punch list is unique to the project for which it is generr ated, but some typical items that may appear on a punch list are: Poor AV connector terminations Damaged wiring Workmanship issues with equipment installation or aesthetic components of the work such as damaged wall finishes, undesirable cable management, and other problems that are visibly objectionable Physical installation issues such as projector positioning, loudspeaker locations, and alignment and integration of devices into furniture Delays in delivery of AV equipment AV equipment failures Slow delivery or no delivery of goods by non-AV service providers (e.g., millwork, electrical, and other contractors) Slow or no delivery of OFE or communications and tions network services AV Facilities Drawings AV plans describe how the AV system components are interr connected. These plans provide the equipment placement, interconnection schematics, and rack elevation drawings. The drawings used most often by an AV project team are: Floor plan Reflected ceiling Electrical Elevation Riser AV Systems Drawings Typical components of the AV design drawings package include: e: 1. 2. 3. Title page and index p Typical power, grounding, and signal wiring details ical Floor and reflected ceiling plans showing device locations 4. 5. Rack elevations k Custom p om plate and panel details Miscellaneous details and elevations, including: laneo Speaking aiming info peakin Large scale plans, such as equipment or control ge room pla m plans Architectural elevations showing A devices, their tectural AV location, and relationship to other items on the on, walls Custom-enclosure or mounting details for projec-enc tors, microphones, loudspeakers, media players, roph etc. Furniture integration details ntegr Any special circu circumstances or detail that may be required for the i installer to properly understand the design intent While some items are the direct responsibility of the int rect integrator, some are caused by delay in work by other parties. T lay To resolve these issues, the AV integrator must play an active role ssues, inseeking timely solutions from the other parties. Proper planseeking pl ning, documentation, and comm mentation, communication are crucial. PROJECT DRAWINGS Architectural Drawings chitectural Architectural drawings are used by contractors to determine how to build all of the structure elements. Small jobs may ow elemen have only one or two drawings; bigger jobs have entire sets ve divided into different groups based on the construction process. Architectural drawings provide a technical illustration of all construction details incl including: Site work Foundation ound Structure ructu Electrical ctrica Mechanic Mechanical Finishes Details 6. Project S oject Specifications Most construction projects in No America use the docuruction North ment format produced by the Co ced Construction Specifications Institute called MasterFormat. Mas asterFormat. MasterFormat is a specifications-writing standard for commercial building design and bu construction projects. It lists titles and section numbers for onstruction nu organizing data about construction requirements, produ ganizing products, and activities. By standardizing such information, MasterForMasterFor r mat facilitates communication among architects, specifiers, acilitates arc contractors and suppliers, which help them to meet building ctors owners’ requirements, timelines and budge budgets.
