It accepts a wide range of input signals and wireless receivers. Tatooles called it a full-featured compact mixer, but the tradeoff is its limited number of outputs. Sony Pro Audio offers the DMX-P01, a 24-bit 48kHz or 96kHz digital mixer with sound quality that Kussmaul said matches that of a studio mixer. “Compared with a mixer configured for studio operations, the DMX-P01 has a limit of four mike/line inputs. However, two DMX-P01 portable mixers can be cascaded together offering a total of eight mike/line inputs,” he notes. Azden Corporation has the relatively new FMX-42 4-channel portable mixer, with four balanced XLR line/mike inputs and individual level and pan controls. It offers switchable 48V phantom power and limiting VU meters, master level control, tone generator, two balanced XLR outputs, a stereo mini-jack output, and a headphone monitor with level control. Another well-known portable mixer is Shure’s FP33, a three-channel, twooutput unit with 12V phantom power. Specifically designed for ENG and remote audio recording, the FP33 includes LED indicators of input levels, output peaks, and limiter action.
