Digital Video - June 2008 - (Page 26) INSTANT EXPERT BY NED SOLTZ SOUND & EFFECTS AUDIO PLUG-INS FOR ALL OCCASIONS ITEM/ CONTACT COMPANY MSRP WHAT IT IS SPECS Master Restoration Suite Wave Arts $499.95 PC (DX/VST/ RTAS); MAC (AU/ VST/MAS/RTAS). www.wavearts.com As the company’s name would indicate, Wave Arts offers a complete suite of plugins for fixing noise, click, hum and gate along with an easily automated master restoration plug-in. Also offered are individual plug-ins for those not requiring the entire suite. Power Suite 5 Wave Arts $599.95 PC (DX/VST/ RTAS); MAC(AU/ VST/MAS/RTAS). www.wavearts.com A complete set of plug-ins for sound design, mixing, tracking and mastering. Included plug-ins are Track Plug, MasterVerb, Final Plug, MultiDynamics and Panorama. Individual plug-ins are also available. Both product suites from Wave Arts are top-notch and make a superb adjunct to any audio workflow. Auto Tune 5 Antares $399 PC/MAC — TDM, VST, RTAS, AU www.antarestech.com I love this one mainly because I have a lousy voice. Auto Tune allows fixing of pitch and note in both vocals and music tracks. It can fix common pitch problems automatically, but for those voices like mine, it can actually allow remapping note-bynote. You can even adjust vibrato or “humanize” the voice to make it sound more natural rather than “too perfect.” Rather than correcting pitch like Auto Tune, the Vocal Toolkit allows creation of voices. One of its most amazing features is harmony creation and choral vocal multiplier. This latter feature allows turning one voice into a chorus of up to 32 distinct individual voices in different octaves, with harmony, etc. Two amazing products from a solid company. AVOX 2 Vocal Toolkit Antares $599 PC (RTAS/VST); Mac (RTAS/ VST/AU). www.antarestech.com Melodyne Studio Celemony Software $699 PC/Mac — VST/AU/RTAS/ DXi. Another superb collection of pitch-changing and correcting plug-ins. Fix vocals even worse than mine. Shift pitch. Shift temo without changing pitch. Remix tracks, reconstruct and rebuild. Versatile, fast, and integrates very well with any supporting format DAW. www.celemony.com Sound Soap BIAS, Inc. Sound Soap 2 $99; Pro version $599 Sound Soap was one of the earliest add-on noise reduction products, and it continues to improve. The $99 version offers far better noise reduction than filters native to many DAWs, while the Pro version provides a complete solution including noise, hum, hiss, crackle, “old vinyl,” and just about any unwanted noise on any track. This is an old favorite which you should not overlook. PC/MAC — RTAS/VST/AU. www.bias-inc.com $7,500 for complete package. Individual plug-ins PC/MAC — available from $150 RTAS/TDM.
