Digital Video - June 2008 - (Page 32) AWARD 2008 was designed to accommodate interchangeable bayonet-mount lenses. Advanced multiple coatings provide sharp, low dispersion images. Choose from direct or 45degree viewing attachments. Waterproof to 15", it is specifically designed for high-resolution HD optics and for handheld or tripod use. www.innovisionoptics.com DV FACTOR: Probe lenses are fantastic for product shots and unique, innovative angles that aren’t otherwise possible. It’s an expensive tool at $9,000, but a great rental for those specialized shots. PROMPTER PEOPLE MIC LIGHT This lightweight fixture simply slips over your camera’s shotgun mike and its 48 high-brightness, 5600°K LEDs offer a substantial yet soft light. It runs on standard or rechargeable alkaline AA batteries. The LEDs in the Mic Light offer fullspectrum light. www.prompterpeople.com DV FACTOR: Portable and convenient lighting is rarely inexpensive. But, at $149, the Mic Light is all three. extended recording times of up to 10 hours. All recording is done in a swappable module that can be detached from the camera. The MRHD200 records natively in a choice of QuickTime (.mov) format or as MPEG-2 transport stream files (.m2t). When using Apple’s Final Cut Pro, editing can be done directly from the drive module. http://pro.jvc.com/prof.com DV FACTOR: Using common SDHC cards, the MR-HD200 offers more affordable and universal appeal to shooting tapeless. The Edirol F-1 Video Field Recorder, mounted to a Canon camcorder. DV FACTOR: Here, you truly get a four-inone system that is easier to carry around than as separate components. (See a complete review on page 18 of this issue.) SACHTLER SOOM Sachtler has adopted “new math” with their SOOM, proving that 1+1+1 actually equals four. A three-component, four-in-one support system, the SOOM is really more of a camera stabilizing Swiss Army knife than a tripod. The centerpiece is the aluminum SOOM TriPod: a 75mm/3" head fixture with a maximum height of 55.9" (142 cm). The spreader has its own 75mm mounting bowl and can become a mini single-stage tripod — like getting a tripod and a high-hat (or really baby legs) in one. The third part of the system is the SOOM Tube, a standalone monopod with a maximum height of 61.8" (just over 5 feet, or 157cm). The three components connected together form a tripod with a telescoping center tube — the SOOM HiPod, which gives you a height of 98.4" (just over 8’ or 250cm). www.sachtler.com T-JIB T-SLIDE Atlanta, Georgia-based T-Jib claimed their Black Diamond Award for an innovative dolly alternative for small cameras. Utilizing a horizontal, rigid platform with a sliding mount, any 100mm tripod head can be mounted directly to the base plate and the rig itself mounts to any 75mm or 100mm standard tripod (as well as two monopods for structural support at the edges). Four smooth and quiet bearings control the camera’s motion. The T-Slide comes in two lengths, a 48" model with 41" of sliding motion and a 67" model with 60" of sliding motion. The “M” series is designed for medium weight cameras up to 20 lbs and the “H” series is mounted on heavier rails and can accommodate up to 40+ lbs. Prices range from $599 to $749. www.t-jib.com DV FACTOR: Well made, compact and versatile, this one-man dolly is a great alternative for small, lateral moves. JVC MR-HD200 This camera-mounted media recorder attaches directly to any of JVC’s ProHD 200 Series camcorders. The MR-HD200U records on non-proprietary Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) solid-state memory in a compact unit that can be permanently attached to JVC’s ProHD cameras. A single 16GB SDHC memory card can store 1.6 hours in the 720p mode and approximately 1.2 hours in 1080i mode. The unit also features a built-in hard disk drive (HDD) for Matrox MX02 32 dv june 2008 www.dv.com http://www.innovisionoptics.com http://pro.jvc.com/prof.com http://www.prompterpeople.com http://www.t-jib.com http://www.sachtler.com http://www.dv.com
