Digital Video - July 2008 - (Page 29) INTERVIEW BY DOUGLAS BANKSTON Q& A Director of photography Marc Carter sets up a car mount for a trip down a Chilean mountain road. Did any strange situations arise when you were trying to capture scenes? The hooker bar in Vietnam was really happening. There were people down at the end of the table working it. I paid real money. They were willing participants as long as I was buying beers. That’s all they cared about. The girl saying the lines was annoyed in her performance because she just wanted her money, and they were afraid I was kind of cramping their style. Most of the movie went on without many incidents. The cops in Russia were interesting. Pay a cop $100, and you can drive his car around — they don’t care. The Vietnamese police? Those weren’t real police. One guy was a homeless man and the other was someone we had met there. They are not wearing real police uniforms. The jail cell is a laundry room in an abandoned house. I went to an army surplus store and bought badges and shirts. www.dv.com dv july 2008 29 http://www.dv.com
