Digital Video - September 2007 - (Page 48) Imagination In Action features full pan and tilt, dolly, zoom, roll and crane controls, with settings for focal length, angle of view, f-stop, depth of field and camera height to portray the actual range of given equipment. By combining these real-world gear limitations with the fixed set dimensions of an established virtual set, FrameForge 3D Studio disallows you from simulating shots that you can’t achieve in reality. The upgrade adds several new tools, including Tweening (the automatic generation of averaged inbetween frames from two or more key still frames to create camera and actor movement) and the option to export slideshows directly to QuickTime for easier integration of FrameForge 3D pre-viz work with Final Cut Pro. When you’re in FrameForge 3D’s Blueprint View, you’re always considered to be looking through the virtual camera. The new Step Back function, however, allows for taking one “step back” from the eyepiece to see the complete mise-en-scène. In this mode, the field of view is tripled and you can pan, tilt and zoom to more closely examine the entire virtual set. Disengaging the Step Back button returns you to the original camera framing. Other changes in v2.5 allow you to select objects and/or cameras and then cut, copy or paste them between shots and sets. Objects can be pasted in the same instance so that you can Tween changes between the pasted object and the source object. Finished FrameForge 3D Studio storyboards can be printed out in grayscale or full color in any of four rendering styles (normal, normal with outlines, cartoon or sketch). You may also view shots as a slide show within the program’s Shot Manager, tailor the duration of each image to a fraction of a second, and export the slide show as a Macromedia Flash or QuickTime video viewable in any Web browser or on CD. Image Based Lighting. A Morphing Tool Palette (providing interactive controls for creating custom morph targets) and Universal Pose (allowing you to apply poses to other biped figures within Poser, regardless of that figure’s joints or rigging, with consistent, high-quality results) are among the software’s other tools. Poser 7 ships with over 1GB of content that includes “second-generation” male and female figures—known as Simon and Sydney—plus a large collection of third-party content. The software also is available in German and French. FrameForge 3D Innovative Software demonstrated the latest version of its $399 3D pre-viz program, FrameForge 3D Studio 2 (for Mac and PC), at the April NAB confab in Las Vegas. For registered users, the upgrade is available for $199 at www.frameforge3d.com. Version 2.5 offers more than 800 poseable actors and objects (with customizable settings) from a simple drag-and-drop library, allowing for the creation of a 3D realm with the freedom to place any number of virtual cameras in any POV. Each camera also right: Poser 7's features include Lip Syncing, which allows figures to talk with facial movements that match real human behavior. 46 DV SEPTEMBER 2007 WWW.DV.COM http://www.dv.com http://www.frameforge3d.com http://www.dv.com http://www.dv.com
