Keyboard Presents Korg Product Spotlight - (Page 8) ZERO MIXERS ZERO MIXERS FOR ZERO HASSLE The ZERO8 and ZERO4 are creating a buzz in the world of laptop-based music. Both combine a multi-channel Firewire audio I/O, a digital mixer, a flexible and customizable MIDI control surface and multi-effects processing all on one integrated product. What that means to you is total control of your music, whether you’re in the studio or performing live. And since ZERO essentially replaces an interface, mixer, MIDI controllers and a rack full of effects, your setup becomes effortless. Want a onecable setup for your live rig or more room on your studio workstation for synths and other gear? It’s all possible with ZERO at the helm. Audio Flow to Go The ZERO8 and ZERO4 provide 8 and 4 stereo channels respectively, and both offer loads of inputs to accommodate your live or studio setup. XLR (Preamps by Peter Watts Designs), Line, Guitar, CD/Line and Phono inputs abound and are easily selectable via the matrix assign at the top of each channel. Towards the end of the input knob an “Audio” choice lets you easily stream audio in and out of your computer. Effects Sweet Effects On the ZERO8, 111 effects can be used three at a time (master/send/channelspecific). Real-time effects control is provided by a touch screen a-la KAOSS! Additionally, two Aux sends provide connections to your favorite external processors. On the ZERO4, you can select one of eight effects per-channel. In addition, you can select one master effect that’s controllable with a vertical wet/dry fader. MIDI Control How and Where You Want It The “MIDI” selection lets you change any channels’ audio controls to MIDI controllers. Knobs, toggles, switches and faders can all be set to send MIDI data for deep, custom control of any DAW, DJ or soft-synth that has a MIDI learn function or preset MIDI implementation. You can even split a channel to be EQ and MIDI control at the same time. Channels set to MIDI continue to stream audio, so you don’t have to sacrifice audio bandwidth for MIDI functionality. Nice! What’s even nicer? The illuminated channels change from bright orange to a shocking blue (ZERO8) or dazzling green (ZERO4) to represent the controls that are set for MIDI. It’s all highly visible, even in the darkest clubs. Zeros’ channel strips illuminate to indicate whether they are controlling incoming Audio, sending MIDI control data or a combination of both. Sonic Sculpting Choices Abound Want sound shaping? There’s more to those 3-band EQs than they let on. They can become one of five EQs, three filters or three isolators! On ZERO8, this is can be selected independently per channel (one applied across all channels on ZERO4). That’s 11 options to help you shape and modulate your mix, which goes way beyond what most mixers offer.
