The NAB Show Offers Global Reach By Brian Smith NAB DAILY NEWS Osgood Honored by NAB Charles Osgood, host of “CBS Sunday Morning” on television and “The Osgood File” on the CBS Radio Network, is this year’s recipient of NAB’s Distinguished Service Award. Osgood has been a broadcast journalist for more than half a century and will receive the DSA at the NAB Show’s All Industry Opening on April 14 in Las Vegas. He spoke recently with TV Technology: All Industry AI By John Merli TV TECHNOLOGY TV Technology: One of the key traits that you share with the late Charles Kuralt, your predecessor on ‘CBS Sunday Morning,’ is being a skilled writer. Is writing in television as important as it once was, considering all the technological innovations that seem to dazzle viewers these days? Osgood: I think the recent [Hollywood] writers strike gave us all some clue as to how important good writing for broadcasting is! [Laughter] But look, I do an hourand-a-half television show every week on Sunday morning and there’s no way I can do all my own writing on the TV side. We Charles Osgood have many good writers at CBS and, among other things, they learn how to write to fit your particular style. During the week, I’m doing radio with [“The Osgood File”] and there I do all of my own writing. I know that in Vegas at the NAB Show that there’s a big emphasis on all the newest technology. I’ve seen that happen through all my forty years here at CBS, as OSGOOD continued on page 3 While modern technology enables seamless, worldwide business transactions everyday, the NAB Show brings together the international community for worldwide commerce.
